The guys had a hearty dinner in the Pad in the woods. After the table was cleared and all the dishes put away, Mike decided they should get in a little practice. So the boys began to play and Helen smiled as she sat and listened to the songs.
“’Ow was that ‘elen?” Davy asked when they finished.
“Great! You guys are really great. I’d love to have you play for my marriage to Prince Halsten,” she said excitedly.
“Man, will you give this fantasy stuff a rest?” Micky asked a bit agitated.
“Uh, I think we’d all better give it a rest,” Mike intervened stopping a budding argument. “Let’s all call it a night and turn in.”
“Yeah, good idea Mike,” Davy agreed.
“”You coming Pete?” Micky asked when he saw that Peter stayed beside behind.
“Yeah. I’ll be there. I just wanna talk with Helen a bit,” Peter answered.
“Well, don’t be too long. It’s late and there’s a full day ahead,” Micky warned.
“I won’t,” Peter answered.
The three Monkees then retired to their beds leaving Peter and Helen alone. When they were sure the others were out of ear shot, they launched into their plan.
“Peter, are you sure Micky doesn’t know? What did he mean about a full day tomorrow?” Helen asked afraid that the plan would be thrown off its course.
“Hm? Oh, that. He’s just giving me a reminder about the chores we have and a full practice session later.”
“Oh. Peter…if you don’t want to go through with this, I’ll understand. It is dangerous and I really don’t want you to get hurt,” Helen said.
“I’m ready Helen. I gave you my word that I would try to help you and I will. I think we can pull this off,” Peter smiled.
“Thank you for believing in me Peter. I know that Mike and Davy are just trying to be polite. Micky, well, Micky just doesn’t like me,” Helen sighed.
“He’s just a bit over-protective. He’s really a good guy. You’ll see,” Peter assured Helen as he gave her a hug. As Peter hugged Helen she said a silent prayer, “Please let no harm come to this man.”
