Chapter 7

Peter sat outside the Pad in the Woods to “calm” Helen from her “ordeal” with Micky. Mike and Davy, once they were assured Helen was OK, went inside the Pad to wait for Micky. Outside:

“I’m sorry I had to make Micky look bad Peter.”

“He’ll be OK. He’s just a little “high-strung,” Peter smiled.

“He’s a good friend. He’s very loyal to you and cares about your safety. Peter, he saw me walk. What he was saying is true.”

“Then, we’d better get to work on your plan,” Peter simply said.

“Peter, you do believe me that I would never put you in danger, but there is always a risk,” Helen sighed.

“I told you I would help you. With a little more practice, I think we may just pull this off,” Peter said confidently.

Helen smiled and began transforming Peter into Prince Halsten.

Inside:

“What has gotten into Micky?” Davy asked for what seemed to Mike as the hundredth time.

“I don’t know, but we’ll find out! I mean it’s just not like him ta be so against anyone!” Mike sighed as he sat down.

The front door slowly opened and Micky stuck his head in the room

“Finally decided to come home?” Mike asked.

Micky saw Mike and Davy standing side-by-side, both with their arms crossed against their chests and stern looks on their faces. If it weren’t for the seriousness of it all, Davy looked like a mini-version of Mike, without the hat.

“Uh—yeah. Um, fellas, I can explain, really,” Micky nervously started.

“We’re all ‘ars,” Davy simply said. He and Mike were still standing in the same pose.

“Well, uh, ya see...I thought I saw Helen walk and I thought she was dressed as a warrior,” Micky began.

“Go on,” Mike said.

“But I know now that I didn’t. It-it must have been a dream, man. It was so real. I –I guess what I’m trying to say guys is I’m sorry. I acted way out of line,” Micky finished.

“Gee, Mick, she’s just an ‘armless girl! You really should ‘ave known better,” Davy said.

“Yeah. Helen isn’t so bad once ya get ta know her. I’ll tell ya what, real princess or not, she sure can tell some good stories,” Mike smiled remembering her last tale.

“It’s almost as though you are right there! I can see ‘er as a storyteller, but not as a warrior,” Davy added.

Micky wanted to groan out loud, but he kept it in. How this girl could dupe them was beyond him. At least he’d gotten over the first hurdle of making them believe that he was sorry for his actions. Mike and Davy believed his “apology.” This was good for Micky because Mike was not easy to fool! To put an end to this “Helen Mutual Admiration Society,” Micky cleared his throat.

“Ah-hem. Uh, guys, where is Helen? I would like to apologize to her.”

“She’s out back with Peter. Micky, I can’t tell ya how glad I am that you’re coming to your senses about Helen,” Mike said slapping Micky on the back.

“Yeah, you’ll see. She’s not a bad bird,” Davy smiled.

“Yeah, we’ll see. We’ll all see,” Micky smirked inwardly to himself.

Mike, Davy, and Micky went to the back of the Pad and found Peter and Helen talking quietly among themselves.

“Hey Peter!” Davy called. “Mick’s got something to say to Helen!”

Micky walked in front of Helen. Both stared deep into each other’s eyes. Micky blinked his eyes to break the gaze.

“Uh, Helen, I know I’ve been acting a complete jerk since you got here, and I want to say, I-I’m sorry,” Micky said hoping he sounded sincere.

“That’s alright Micky. Apology accepted,” Helen smiled.

Micky moved in to give Helen a hug and as he did so, he whispered in her ear, “I’ll be keeping an eye on you.”

“Oh, I’m counting on it,” Helen whispered back as they hugged.

“Aw, isn’t that nice?” Peter smiled. Mike and Davy agreed. Peace was restored. If only they knew.
