"I need to stop by Buddy's to see if my part came in," Mike said. The guys had been out and this was the last stop before heading home. The car stopped in front of the garage and Mike got out. There was a car and a pair of legs sticking out from underneath it.
"Buddy! Hey, Buddy!" Mike called. The legs underneath the car moved and began to slide out.
"Hey, Mike," Buddy smiled, wiping the grease from her hands. Buddy was a young girl who worked in the garage. She had dark hair that she wore in a ponytail and dark brown eyes and a slight build. She often would help Mike work on the Monkeemobile and they had developed a friendship.
"Did the part come in?" Mike asked helping her from the slide.
"Yeah. Got it right here!" Buddy went to the counter and came back with a box that she handed to Mike.
"Thanks! Uh?about the bill---," Mike said.
"Don't worry. Ya got a tab!" Buddy laughed. She looked toward the car and waved to the guys.
"Hey Buddy!" Peter, Micky and Davy said in unison.
"Hey, guys," Buddy called as she walked with Mike to the car.
"Busy?" Micky asked.
"Just an oil change," Buddy answered.
"Hey, Buddy," Mike said as he slid behind the wheel of the car, "why don?'t you come to the club to hear us tonight??" The instant he offered, he regretted it. He had forgotten the last time he had invited Buddy to the club. She had accepted, but it turned out to be a mistake.
The other guys had invited girls also. When they saw Buddy, who wore her hair in a ponytail and wore jeans instead of a dress to the club, they made fun of her the entire night.
"Well, well, well. The Monkees have grease monkey!" they all laughed.
Mike suddenly remembered the disaster and was quick to apologize.
"That's alright, Mike. Everyone has a right to their opinions," Buddy said.
"But not at another's expense." Peter said.
"Thanks, Peter," Buddy smiled.
"Besides, we don't see them anymore," Davy added. "They didn't really know us at all."
"Yeah. Too shallow," Micky added.
"Well, I think I'll pass. Hey Mike, you still want me to help you with the car tomorrow?" Buddy asked, changing the subject.
"If you don?t mind," Mike answered.
"I'll be there! Have fun guys!" Buddy waved and returned to the car she was working on.
"Buddy's a good kid. I wish she'd come," Micky said on the ride to the Pad.
"Well, those girls did give 'er a hard time," Davy said. "She jus' doesn't want to go through tha' again."
"She just needs a little help," Peter said more to himself than to the others.
