Poor Petra! During the first half of the show, she had gotten so many pies in her face that she felt she could never eat another pie again. Finally, it was the girl’s turn to answer the questions. Petra sighed a sigh of relief. Now surely Micky would experience what it felt like when or if he gave a wrong answer. The second half of “Cupid’s Couples” was about to begin.
The set director gave the countdown. “Welcome back everybody to the second half of “Cupid’s Couples.” So far, in the game, James and Cassie, Dean and Lea, and Joey and Paula are all tied for the lead. Micky and Petra are currently in last place. But, hey guys, there’s always a chance in the next round,” Ronnie smiled into the camera.
At the Pad:
“Yeah there’s a chance pigs will fly,” Mike mumbled under his breath. Just as Mike expected, this was a disaster.
At the Studio:
This time, the lovely ladies were placed over water in a dunking booth. They looked at each other expectantly. What was happening? Wasn’t it time for the guys to get dunked?
“I know what you’re thinking, girls. You thought, and I know especially Petra (audience laughs) that the guys would be penalized. Well that’s the beauty of it. Even though we are asking the girls the questions this time, if the guys give the wrong answer, the girls will still get penalized,” Ron said brightly. The camera closed in on Micky and Petra’s reaction and the audience howled.
At the Pad:
“Ey Mike! Look at Petra!!” Davy exclaimed pointing to the TV set.
“Oh my heavens! Did ya catch that look?” Mike asked as he stared at the TV.
“Guys, I’m really gonna miss Micky,” Peter said as he too stared at the set. His remark caused the other two Monkees to turn and look at him.
At the Studio:
“And to show you how it’s done----,” Ron smiled.
But he didn’t finish the sentence. Petra’s seat dropped from underneath her and she plunged into the water. The audience roared with laughter. Petra sputtered as she was helped back on the seat.
“I’m sorry Petra, but the couple with the lowest score had to demonstrate this penalty. You guys will be happy to know that this dunking does not count toward your final scores,” Ron said trying to keep a straight face. The audience was wild with laughter.
Needless to say, the second half of the show went exactly as the first half did. Micky and Petra did not answer a single question correctly. At least they could have gotten one, but by then Petra was so waterlogged that she dunked herself.
Mercifully, the show came to an end. Dean and Lea won the grand Prize of an elusive date in Burbank. Joey, Paula, James, and Cassie won a night out at an exclusive theme park. Micky and Petra were given a constellation prize, a book. A book entitled Relationships: How to Build Them. They were also given the title of the “Most Incompatible Couple in Game Show History.”
It was a very quiet ride home. They didn’t want to face the “I Told You So” chorus from the guys. The best they hoped for was that there was a big power outage and since the guys could not see the show decided to go out. Then Micky and Petra could at least slip into the house unnoticed and retire to their rooms. But then again, that would prove to be too much like right.
