Back at the Pad, Mike, Peter, and Davy gathered around their TV set. When they heard about the change in questions, they looked at each other.
“So much for my bad feelin’,” Mike said.
“Do you think they ‘ave a chance?” Davy asked.
“Oh yeah. There’s a chance, a chance Petra will kill Micky for getting her into his scheme,” Peter said half-smiling.
“Yeah, well maybe this is just what they need to understand ya can’t get nothin’ by being dishonest,” Mike said.
Then, the show returned and the first half was about to begin. The break seemed like an eternity to Micky and Petra. The sad thing about it was Micky and Petra actually had fun when they were together. There were no “bad dates” for them.
Ron began by announcing that for the first round of questions, the girls would be taken to soundproof booths so they could not hear their boyfriends’ answers. Once the girls were secured off-stage, the questions began.
“Alright guys, here’s your first question: What was your worst date? Let’s start with Dean,” Ron smiled.
“Uh, I’d have to say our first date. Since I was taking French in high school, we went to a French restaurant and I ordered our dinner in French. I thought I was gonna impress her, but I insulted her mother in the translation,” Dean answered. (the audience laughs)
“Way to start a relationship,” Ron quipped. “How about you, James?”
“Well, I’d have to say our first date too. We decided to just walk around in the park. The trouble was it had rained and Cassie slipped and fell down a muddy slope,” James answered. “She was covered head to toe in mud.” (audience laughs)
“Joey, how about you? What was your worse date?
“Our worse date had to be when we went on one of those fast rides at the fair. She got sick and I had to take her home. I was gonna ask her to be my steady in the Tunnel of Love,” Joey said. (The audience awws).
“Such a romantic. And you, Micky?” Ron asked.
The question had finally made it to Micky. He had been sweating bullets the entire time the other guys answered. How could he answer this? He always had a great time with Petra! Now all eyes were on him. Sometimes he thought Petra had ESP the way she’d “just know” things. Well if she did, now was as good as any to use it.
“Well, uh, you see Petra and I really don’t have any bad dates,” Micky started (the audience awed)
At the Pad, the Monkees were watching the show:
“Tha's for sure!” Davy said, responding to Micky’s answer.
“At least he didn’t lie about that,” Peter added.
“Guys, does Micky look like he’s about to pass out?” Mike asked looking at the screen.
Back at the studio:
“But if I have to pick one it was when I tried to impress her with ballet and I leaped into the wall,” Micky continued. (the audience oohed)
“Were you OK?” Ron asked pretending to be serious.
“Oh yeah, and the wall was too,” Micky quipped (audience laughs)
“Next question: What is the one thing your girl does that irritates you?” Ron asked.
“James?”
“Drive,” James firmly stated.
“Drive?” Ron asked.
“Yeah. She makes a big production number and then drives like five miles an hour.” (the audience laughs)
“Dean? What about you?”
“Singing! She cannot carry a note!” Dean answered.
“Joey?”
“Man, I’m gonna have to say singing, too!” Joey said.
“And Micky?”
Oh no. What could Micky say now?
