Chapter 4

(Later on that evening, The Monkees had to meet up with the Senator for their instructions about the party...)

Senator: Okay here's the plan. I will give the introduction, "Here they are performing for the first time outside their area; The Monkees!" And that's when you come out on stage. I don't want any fast-paced songs.

Mike: But we're a rock band; we do nothing *but* fast-paced songs.

Davy: Not *all* songs that are fast are bad sir.

Senator: You heard me! Fast-paced songs only cause a ruckus. I want nothing but slow-paced music.

Micky: Then what'd you hire us for?

Senator: You were the only ones I could find *cheap* enough at the last minute.

Delaney: Excuse me, father, but may I have a word with you?

Senator: I'm busy Delaney. You will have to wait until later.

Delaney: It can't *wait* that long.

Senator: Why not?

Delaney: Because Beth...I mean Elizabeth is gone.

The Monkees (In Unison): She's gone..?!

Delaney: Yes she's disappeared. I went to talk to her but she's not in her room.

Senator: Did you check the swimming pool?

Delaney: Not there. I checked the board room, the three dens and the tennis court. She's gone. She took her suit case and left.

Senator: I'm sure she didn't go too far.

Delaney: For your sake, I hope not. If the tabloids get a hold of this one, you *won't* be able to live it down.

Davy: We'll find her for you sir.

Senator: You will do no such thing! You are the reason she's gone and as of right now, you are all fired! Get out of here!

Mike: But Senator, it wasn't his faul...

Senator: I said to get out! (The senator takes off)

Micky: And, once again, it's another fine mess you've gotten us into over a girl Dave. Thank you very much.

Davy: But I didn't do anything Micky! (They just looked at him) She's run away from home; don't you get it? She doesn't wanna be here!

Mike: I s'pose you think you know where she is then?

Davy: No, but we will search every inch of this city if we have to find her!

Micky: *You* can search the city! *I* am going back home to L.A. where I belong and dream about getting a 'real job.'

Mike: Mick, cool it will ya? (To Davy) We'll help ya if you promise me that you won't fall in love with her; that when we *do* find her, you'll let her go?

Micky: You're asking for a miracle from him Mike!

Davy: I...I promise Mike.

Mike: Let's go get our stuff and get the car packed up.

Peter: Oh boy! We're going on another road trip! Yeah!

Mike: No, you dufas! We are going to find Elizabeth.

Davy: It's Beth. She does *not* like being called by her full name.

Mike: C'mon! (They all go upstairs to get their stuff)

======

(Meanwhile, Beth is walking along the streets when she gets hit from behind. She wakes up and finds herself in a cold, abandoned warehouse. Her mouth had tape around it and her hands, legs and feet were all tied up. She began to mumble and make noise and was soon approached by a tall, dark-haired man in all black attire...)

Guy: So, I see you have finally awaken. (He rips the tape off her mouth)

Beth: AHH! That hurt!

Guy: Good!

Beth: What do you *want* from me?

Guy: I know who you are and I want what any American citizen wants; money and lots *of* it. Your granddaddy will pay me a bundle just to get you back.

Beth: I doubt it. The only thing he *cares* about *is* his money. He won't part with it; not even for me.

Guy: We'll just see about that now *won't* we?

=======

(While Beth was being held captive, the man makes his telephone call to the mansion...)

Butler: Senator Price's Residence?

**Man's Voice** (Disguised voice): Put him on!

Butler: Who shall I say is calling?

**Man's Voice**: Nobody important. Put him on!

Butler: One moment please. Senator? There is a man on the telephone for you. He will not give a name?

Senator: Take a message. I've got too much to do to answer it.

Butler (To the man on the phone): The Senator is busy. May I take a message?

**Man's Voice**: You tell him that he is to take the telephone call right now! It has to do with his granddaughter!

Butler (To the Senator): Sir, he says it's about your granddaughter. (The Senator took the telephone)

Senator: Hello?

**Man's Voice**: If you ever wish to see your precious granddaughter again alive and unharmed, you will listen for my instructions.

Senator: Who *is* this? Is this a prank?

**Man's Voice**: I assure you Senator, this is no prank. Your pretty little granddaughter will die if you do not listen to what I have to say.

Senator (Looking at his daughter and waving his hand for her to come to him): I'm listening.

**Man's Voice**: You are to bring $10,000,000 to the old amusement park by the bay. You will see a telephone booth. You will wait there for further instructions. If you bring the police, she will be dead!

Senator: How do I know you have her?

**Man's Voice**: Say hello to your grandfather, Lizzy! (The man has a knife to her throat) **Beth's Voice** (Frightened, crying voice): Grandfather, help me please! He's gonna...(The man grabs the phone back) **Man's Voice**: The clock is ticking ol' man. You have exactly one hour to bring me that money.

Senator: But I can't get it in one hour.

**Man's Voice**: You will *find* a way! Remember, bring $10,000,000 to the phone booth at the old amusement park in one hour! (The man hangs up the telephone on the Senator. The Senator, in shock, put the phone down slowly)

Delaney: Father, what's wrong?

Senator: Some man has Elizabeth in his hands. He's demanding I bring him $10,000,000 to the old amusement park with no cops. (Delaney sat down in the near-by chair in shock)

Delaney: I *knew* something like this was going to happen. You just *couldn't* let her be a kid could ya?

Senator: What do you mean Delaney?

Delaney: I have been wanting to say this to you for a long time now but didn't know how or when the right time was. Now is the right time! Growing up, all you cared about was you becoming Senator. You didn't care about me or my feelings. You thought being tough on me was a good thing when all it did was drive me into Brian's arms and then it ended up bringing my marriage to an end because you were constantly on Brian's back about working in a factory to make our living instead of working beside you. You think more of your money than you do us and it's gotten worse since Beth was born. Now we move in here and you try to run her life when she is 17 years old and look what it did!

Senator (Hurt and sitting down himself): I'm sorry, Delaney. I guess when your mom died I felt I had to do things to keep me from hurting. Becoming a Senator was one of them. I would work just to keep her out of my head. And when you named your daughter Elizabeth, I didn't know how to react.

(The Monkees come down the stairs at that moment and head for the door when the Senator stops them...)

Senator: Boys..? (They stop) Boys, I'm sorry. Look I don't have time to explain things but Elizabeth is in trouble. She's been kidnapped and they want money from me. Problem is, I can't get it in the time they need it.

Davy (Coming forward): She's been what..?

Senator: Kidnapped. Someone has her held hostage and is demanding a big sum of money from me and I...well I don't know what I'm going to do. Her life is on the line. He said if I don't deliver it, she'll die.

Davy: We won't let *that* happen! (The Monkees began to mumble) Right! (To the Senator) We know exactly what to do. (They nodded) On three; 1 - 2 - 3.... MONKEE-MEN!! (Their outfits change to the red tights outfit)

Mike: Have no fear; Monkee-Men are here!

Micky: Okay; now what?

Davy: We go find Beth!

Mike: Up-Up and...Away! (Three of the four Monkees take off and Peter stays behind)

Senator: Why didn't you..?

Peter: Well I...well you see I can't...I'm going to go take a cab. (Peter walks out the door)
