About a month later Davy came running up to his house carrying the mail in his hand.
"'E wrote, `e wrote!" he shouted as he came into the house.
"Who sweet'eart?" his mom asked as she came out of the kitchen.
"Micky, I got a letteh from `im." Davy said, setting all the mail down except for an envelope. He then ran up to his room to read it.
*Hey Davy,
Wowsers, England. I didn't think my pen pal would be from
that country. I thought it'd be Canada or something like that.
Anyways, what's it like there? I've never really learned much about
it, except for in history of course, which I'll admit I like.
My
name is George Michael, but I'm called by my middle name, thank
goodness. What do you look like; do you have a picture? Mom said I
could send you one, so that picture there is me.
You said you've got
sister, well what do you know, so do I. They're odd though, but I
love them.
Have you ever seen a beach? If you haven't you're missing
something, I live close to one and it's amazing.
So what's your
family like? I'd tell what mine was like, but I have to finish my
homework now, or else I can't go over my friend's house.
Please
write back.
Micky Dolenz*
Davy reread the letter several times. This guy seemed to be hyper, at least in his letter anyways. He was going to write him back, but before that he had to go see Emma. He'd promised they would go riding.
"Goin' to Emma's!" he shouted as he ran out the door. He didn't even wait for a response as he ran out. He wanted to tell her all about the letter.
"'Ello, David. I'll go get Emma." Emma's mother said after she'd answered the door and found Davy standing there.
"Thank ya, Mrs. Cotsworth." He said, standing at the doorstep all smiles. Not long after she'd left did Emma coming running down.
"'Ey there." She said smiling.
"'Ello, guess what?" Davy said excitedly.
"Ya found somethin' ta make ya talleh." She teased, she was the only one who could tease him about his height and not make him upset about it. Now that they were in third grade they'd both gotten taller, although she was now taller than him.
"No. I got a letteh from that Micky in America. `e sent me a picture too." Davy said, as he pulled a picture out of his pocket.
"That's some `air `e's got." Emma commented, looking at a kid with a wide grin on his face.
"I know." Davy said, rubbing his hand through his own short, brown hair. The two walked toward the stables.
"Ya gonna write `im back?" she asked, handing him the picture back, which he took and stuffed back into his pocket.
"Sure, `e sounds a bit `yper though, but it'll be fun." Davy said smiling. The two came to the stables and went to the two horses they rode all the time. Davy's horse was named Chester and Emma's was named Lady.
"Promise ta tell me `bout every letteh. I'd like ta know `im too." Emma said with a smile as she got onto Lady.
"Ya know I will.'ow `bout yer person. `ave they written back?" He asked with curiosity while getting onto Chester.
"Not yet, but that's al'ight if they don't." She said and with that the two went riding out of the stables.
