Sara and Grissom found a wonderful townhouse in San Francisco overlooking the bay. It was light blue and had white shutters. There were three floors and three bedrooms, with a living room, dining room, kitchen, two baths, and a den. Sara got to decorate in the Japanese décor that she adores so much, and Gil got to display his butterfly collection and keep his tarantula Charlie in the den. Lydia’s room was decorated with Baby Looney Tunes.
Micky and Elaine were busy making plans for their wedding in two months. It was going to be at the church that Sara and Grissom attend; they have been going to church lately in Vegas. They haven’t given their lives over to Christ yet; but they were filled with questions about Him and were interested in learning more about Christianity.
Elaine and Sara were sitting at the table in Sara’s dining room, discussing the wedding. Elaine and Micky were in town visiting.
“So Lanie, have you decided on colors yet?”
“Yes, I would like pink and black.”
“Pink and Black? I’m not so sure about the black.”
“It reminds me of the 50’s. I don’t think black is so bad for a color.”
“Okay, it’s your wedding after all.”
“Yup. Micky’s going to use his 1957 Corvette to drive us back to his apartment after the wedding. I’m so excited! You know his Vette is pink?”
“No I didn’t know that, that’s cool!”
“Yeah! Oh and our decorations will all be 50’s inspired. We have even got a hold of some old, beat up 45’s to use. We’re going to string them up and they will be spinning around in the room.”
“So what kind of wedding dress are you getting?”
“I’m going to wear a poodle skirt, Bobby socks, and saddle shoes with a white blouse! My hair is going to be in a ponytail with a silk scarf around it and one around my neck. Micky is going to wear a white t-shirt, jeans and black shoes with white socks like they did back then. His hair is going to be slicked back too.”
“Wow, you both really love the 50’s don’t you?”
“Yup! The music is fab too; you need to listen to it sometime. Love the doo wop sound.”
“I’ll have to give it a listen sometime. So what am I and the bridesmaids wearing?” She was dreading what she thinks Elaine is going to say.
“Pink poodle skirts, white blouses, Bobby socks, saddle shoes, and silk scarves of course!”
Yup, that’s what Sara figured she was going to say. “Ah, where do we find these skirts?”
“There is a retro clothing store on the strip that has all these cool 50’s items. Next time you and Griss come to visit we will go there so you can get the clothing.”
“Okay, I’ll make sure we come out in a month, how’s that?”
“Sounds great to me.”
Micky and Gil were sitting in the den, talking and watching a Giants baseball game.
“So Gil, you know about Lanie and I having a 50’s wedding right?”
“Yeah, I think that’s really neat.”
“Yeah it’s cool. So, you willing to wear a white t-shirt, jeans, black shoes and white socks and have your hair slicked back?”
“I guess so. That’s what the guys have to wear huh?”
“Yup. The girls are wearing poodle skirts and white blouses with Bobby socks and saddle shoes.”
“Oh I bet Sara will love that. Not.”
“She needs to get into the spirit of our wedding Griss! Both of us love the 50’s you know. Oh and I’m driving my pink Corvette to the wedding.”
“Excellent! I love that car of yours.”
“Thanks! She’s my baby. Lanie loves it too. I’ve got the pink and black fuzzy dice in my mirror and I’m ready to go!”
“Cool. So do you have your vows written yet?”
“No, I’m still trying to think how to word all my feelings.”
“What are you trying to say?”
“That I love her and how much I want to spend the rest of my life with her. Also how I’m glad that we met and fell in love.”
“Just write how you feel. I’m sure it will all come together wonderfully.”
“Lanie has hers done already and I am looking forward to hearing them.”
“I’m sure you are. You need to get writing when you get home.”
“I sure do. You are a great friend Griss.”
“Thanks you are too.”
They finished watching the game and went into the dining room where Sara and Elaine were playing with Lydia, who was in her carrier on the table. She was five-months-old and getting her first tooth in, so she was chewing on a plastic toy that looked like a pretzel.
“Hey there Lydia! How’s my girl?”
Gil picked her up and then sat down on the chair holding her. She grinned and cooed at her dad.
“Oh yeah? I’m glad that you’re doing well! So what are you ladies talking about?”
“The wedding of course.” Elaine answered. “I’m sure Micky has been talking your ear off about it.”
“Yes he has, but I don’t mind. So you are looking forward to riding in Micky’s Vette?”
“Oh yeah. It will be my first ride ever in that car! I can’t wait!”
“I have ridden in it before. It’s a smooth ride.”
“Awesome!”
Later that afternoon, Micky and Elaine left for Vegas. Sara, Grissom and Lydia were in the living room watching TV.
“So Sara, I bet you’re looking forward to wearing a poodle skirt!” Gil laughed at his wife.
“Very funny Griss! I’m only putting up with it because it’s their wedding. You know their colors are pink and black?”
“Yeah, Micky told me. Hey I have to wear a greaser outfit, so don’t feel bad. My hair has to be slicked back. I’m surprised that I don’t have a pack of cigarettes rolled up in my t-shirt.”
They both laughed, which caused Lydia to laugh, her bottom tooth showing.
“Even Lydia thinks it’s funny!” They both smiled at their daughter, who was laughing and kicking her feet in the air.
