The four Monkees ran down a long, dark passageway and through a door. They found themselves in the back room of the building next to the China Boy restaurant. Hearing a commotion, they ran to the back door and out into the alley.
There they found several C.I.S. agents lying on the ground and Boris with his beefy arm around Inspector Blount's neck! Madam and Dragonman were with him as Boris began to drag the helpless inspector down the alley.
"Hold it, Dragonman!" Mike shouted.
The three spies turned and Madam pulled out a pistol.
"You hold it, fool!" She shouted, "We're leaving and taking the inspector with us!"
"Our superiors will be quite interested in the knowledge he has." Dragonman smiled.
They began to back away from the Monkees when Boris' foot slipped on an empty bottle. He lost his balance and fell backwards, taking Madam and Inspector Blount with him. They crashed into a row of empty trash cans. Inspector Blount grabbed a trash can lid and hit Boris and Madam over the head. They instantly lost consciousness.
With a snarl, Dragonman pulled a long knife with a wavy blade out of his sleeve and began to advance on the Monkees.
"You've been a thorn in my side long enough." He said.
Micky, Peter and Davy shrank back, but Mike quickly pulled off his wool hat, took out a small, snub-nosed gun, and extending his arm, aimed it right at Dragonman's head. The Chinaman stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes growing wide at the gun pointed just inches from his forehead.
"What...how?" Dragonman stuttered.
"You should teach your lackeys how to frisk a man better." Mike said.
"You cannot kill me." Dragonman taunted, "You're too good, always doing the honorable thing."
"Why shouldn't I?" Mike asked, "You've hurt my friends not once, but twice now. But like you said, I always do the honorable thing. I'll let the C.I.S. deal with you. Now drop your knife and raise your hands."
Dragonman still stared defiantly at Mike, weighing his options, but Mike made the decision for him. He clicked the hammer back on his gun.
"Drop your knife, Dragonman. I won't ask so nicely next time."
Seeing the look in Mike's eyes, Dragonman finally admitted defeat. He dropped his knife to the ground and raised his hands into the air.
"I'll get my revenge on you and your friends someday, Mr. Nesmith." Dragonman said, "Someday when you least expect it."
"That day will be a long time in coming, Dragonman." Inspector Blount said from behind him, "Especially where you'll be going this time." The inspector grabbed Dragonman's hands and cuffed them behind his back. Just then, Agent Modell came outside, followed by his men.
"Took you long enough." The inspector snapped at him. "Round these characters up and let's get going."
Mike finally lowered his arm and let it dangle at his side. His friends came up to him.
"Are you okay, Mike?" Micky asked.
"Yeah," Mike said quietly, "I'm just glad I didn't have to fire this gun, I couldn't find any bullets."
He let it drop to the ground, where it discharged. Everyone jumped in shock. Then, the Monkees began to laugh, embracing in a group hug. Inspector Blount came over to them.
"Once again, this country owes you boys a great debt." He said.
"It's Mike who's the hero." Peter said, "I didn't know he was so brave."
"I just didn't want the three of you to pay for what I did all those years ago." Mike replied.
"You three don't look so good." Blount said, "I better have you sent to the hospital for a checkup."
So Dragonman, Boris, Madam and the others were taken away in unmarked cars. Micky, Peter and Davy were taken to the hospital to treat their backs. Mike paused and picked up his gun. He debated whether or not to toss it, but decided to keep it...just in case.
---------
Several hours later, Mike drove his friends home from the emergency room. Micky, Peter and Davy were treated for their sore backs and for dehydration and were told to sleep on their stomachs for a few days.
"Mike?" Davy asked.
"Yeah, Davy?" Mike replied.
"Thanks for coming after us." Davy said, "But you're still have a lot of explaining to do!"
Mike gave his friends a tired smile. "I know. In the morning, I'll give you three the full story."
