“That was stupid!”

“I know.”

“Did he answer?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t ya talk ta him?”

“I don’t know. I guess I lost my nerve.”

“Phyllis, ya gotta do this!! Ya gotta tell him, about the baby!!”

“I know,” Phyllis sighed.

“Will ya quit sayin’ that? Knowin’ and doin’ are two different things!! He has a right ta know!!”

“He has a temper,” Phyllis interjected.

“So do you! When did that stop ya before?”

“I just thought he would remember “AMY,” Phyllis said.

“Try again. Next time you talk ta him!”

“Alright! Alright! This isn’t easy ya know!” Phyllis said resigned.

The Next Day

Ring, Ring

“Just my luck!” Mike thought as he answered the phone. “Hello?”

“Hello. Is Amy there?” Phyllis nervously asked.

“No, there’s no Amy here,” Mike answered. “Hey, didn’t ya call here yesterday?” The answer to his question was a quick click and a dial tone.

“Don’t say a word!” Phyllis warned. “I’ll do it. I just thought he‘d remember “AMY”, but I guess not.

“Well, ya got one more shot at it. Ya better make yer mark, shotgun!”

“Don’t say that. Ya sound too much like him.” Phyllis said.

“Oh you don’t get off that easy!! What’d ya expect? I am his twin sister for crying out loud!” Bobbie Nesmith said. “Look Phyl, I came with you to right a wrong. How can he do that if he doesn’t know anything?”

“You’re right, as usual. It’s just that AMY was our code for “all my yearnings.” I know it sounds silly, but it is sentimental for me,” Phyllis softly said.

“OK. I am not entirely cold-hearted, but guys don’t usually hold on ta sentiment. Call him and tell him. Now!!” Bobbie ordered as she held the phone to Phyllis.

Phyllis took the phone and once again dialed the number. This time Micky answered.

“Hi. Uh—is Amy there?” Phyllis nervously spoke.

“No, you’ve got the wrong number, babe,” Micky said.

“Who is it?” Mike asked.

“It’s the chick looking for Amy,” Micky said. “You sure you dialed the right number?”

“Amy? Amy? AMY!!” Mike almost shouted. He quickly took the phone from Micky. “Phyllis? Phyllis, is this you?”

“Yes. It’s me,” Phyllis said as she exhaled a sight of relief.

“Where are you?” Mike asked.

“I’m here with your sister in Malibu,” Phyllis answered.

Mike rolled his eyes at the mention of his sister. “Why didn’t ya just call instead of this AMY stuff?” he asked.

“I thought you’d remember. I hoped you’d remember. Michael, we need to talk,” Phyllis softly said.

As Phyllis and Mike made preparations, Bobbie held the child in her arms and smiled. “It’s gonna be alright, baby. It’s gonna be alright.”
