Satanism is a humanism.
Satanism is not an ideology. In general, religious Satanism is a private matter, and it has very little to do with society as such. However, Satanism is also by definition a humanism. Executive Director of the American Humanist Association Frederick Edwords defines "Philosophical Humanism" as "any outlook or way of life centered on human need and interest". Humanism, he says, "is, in sum, a philosophy for those in love with life" (see http://www.jcn.com/humanism.html). This is exactly what Satanism is all about, to be in love with life. Whereas Christians talk about the will of god, Satanists talk about True Will, ie. the true will of man - which is the will to be, and the will to become. Satanists serve Satan by serving humans, including themselves, for this is what we believe in. We believe that Azazel came to us humans to help us grow, and help us understand. "Azazel," says The Book of Enoch, "taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones ... " (1 Enoch 8:1). In Genesis 3:1-5 the serpent comes to Adam and Eve in order to open their eyes, so they can be like god, "knowing good and evil." Satanism is man-centered; it is not about the afterlife, or heaven. It is about you and me, right now, and how we can further ourselves. To be able to further ourselves, and to become, we need Lebensraum. We need personal freedom; freedom of expression, freedom from censorship, freedom from religious oppression, etc. We need an open society. Therefore, even though Satanism as such has no political agenda, you will find that most Satanists are to some degree concerned about political issues. |
