Rules Interpretations

Here is the simple wording on the rule change 3.3.2 C

Here is the take on the change to rule 3.3.2.c. At the time the bleeding player leaves the game, he may be replaced. If the team elects to replace the bleeding player, his future return to the game will be handled only via normal substitution opportunity.

If the team elects to play shorthanded, they may not substitute for him until their next substitution opportunity. If, however, the team elects to play shorthanded, that same player (with blood taken care of) may return at the next stoppage of play, after he moves to the scorer's table area, to bring his team to full staff.

So, we'll have to keep track of the bleeding player's identity, in the event the team elects to play short, so that only he may return if the next stoppage is not a legal substitution opportunity for his team.

30/30 RULE

With the advent of the new season and the increased possibility of thunderstorms, keep in mind the 30/30 rule.

When you first see lightning, start counting seconds until you here the thunder. If you hear thunder before reaching 30, the lightning is less than 6 miles away and you should suspend the game until 30 minutes has passed without a clap of thunder occurring within the 30 second limit after the lightning strike.

I would like to remind everyone to read page 9 of your 2001 pre-season bulletin for a more detailed definition of the rule.
