Carol Ross Returns Home

Former Lady Rebel, Carol Ross, returned home Tuesday, March 18th, by signing a contract to become the head coach of the Ole Miss Lady Rebels basketball squad. She was the head coach of the Florida Lady Gators for twelve years and earned great success there. A native of Oakland, MS, Carol was the SEC Coach of the Year twice and was a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year twice, as well.

When she arrived at Florida, she completely turned their program around. Before Carol coached there, Florida had never attended a NCAA Tournament, only had one 20-game winning season, and had never finished any year ranked in the Top 25. During the twelve years Carol coached at Florida, her team had AVERAGED 20 wins per season, reached the NCAA Tournament nine times (including an Elite 8 appearance), and was ranked a total of 112 times in the Top 25. She finished her coaching career at Florida with a record of 247-121 (84-63 in the SEC).

Peggy Gillum, recent head coach of Texas A&M for five years, will also be coming as an assistant coach. I am just one of MANY Rebel fans who would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Ross and Ms. Gillum for coming to coach for our program. Carol has been quoted to saying that she wants to win National Championships in the future. With Ole Miss' bright past in its Lady Basketball program's history, we soon will be looking towards an even brighter future!
