Organic chemistry has a immence variety of carbon compounds produced by living things. Organic compounds also tend to make chains of carbon wich is very unique to organic chemistry. For a long time scientists believed in vitalism, this means they believed that organisms had a force that assembles compounds that science couldn't do in a lab, was later proven wrong.
Fredrich Wöhler questioned the idea of vitalism and though his experiments didn't imedaitly disproved vitalism wich started a chain of experiments with other scientists. Eventually vitalism was disproven.
