Oriole Chess Club/Community Centre will be closed on December 25 and January 1.
Next tournaments will be on January 8, 2012.

The Club will reimburse $20 to every active member * that has participated this tournament after April 18 .

The Club will reimburse $30 to every active member* that has participated this tournament after May 22 .
* Only those registered in 3 Oriole Junior or 2 Regular tournaments
from January to April 11, 2010 will be eligible to receive the sponsorship.
Only one sponsorship per member.
No application is needed.

Congratulations to Dina Kagramanov, who has received the title of "Woman International Master".


Congratulations to Jiaxin Liu and James Fu, who had won Gold in under 8 girls and Silver in Under 12 open sections respectively in the 2009 North American Youth Chess Championship held in Mexico from October 1 to 5, 2009. All four Canadian participants won a medal!

Congratulations to Dina Kagramanov, who has won the 2009 Canadian Women’s Closed and Zonal Championship held in Kitchener from July 30 to August 3, 2009.

Ontario Chess Challenge 2009
The Club will reimburse $20 to every active member that participated this tournament on April 26.
Total amount sponsored was $100.
Recipients: Zehn Nasir, Roy Posaratnanathan, Juliaan Posaratnanathan, Jonathan Lai and Yinshi Li.

Toronto Open 2009
The Club will reimburse $30 to every active member that participated this tournament from April 17-19.
Total amount sponsored was $240.
Recipients: Jack Maguire, Zehn Nasir, Ferdinand Cale, Joey Orozco, Roy Posaratnanathan,
Juliaan Posaratnanathan, Michael Roers, Mark Bercouci and David Bowers (donated back to the club)


Congratulations to Ferdinand Cale who came tied first in the U1600 section ot the Toronto Open, April 17-19.

News from Seneca Hill and Oriole Chess Club
38th Women’s Chess Olympiad – Sponsoring news

We are pleased to announce the following sponsorship awards for Canada’s representatives at the 38th Women’s Chess Olympiad.

Hazel Smith will receive $500 from the Seneca Hill Chess Club in recognition of her many years of contribution to the Seneca Hill Public School Chess Team.

Dina Kagramanov will receive $200 from the Seneca Hill Chess Club, where she is an instructor;
and $300 from the Oriole Chess Club, where she is a regular member.

The Ontario Girls’ Chess Championship organizers are running two fundraising tournaments in October for two special guests of honour,
Natalia Khougarian and Yuanling Yuan. Each of them will be awarded $150 from the proceeds.
In addition, Yuanling also received a $150 donation from the Cheng family and $50 from the OGCC Simuls.

We are extremely proud to be able to support the female stars of our country.
Thanks to all those that have participated in the various events and clubs—they have made these awards possible.


Oriole recognizes its members playing in CYCC 2008
Congratulations to Roman Sapozhnikov, Alexandru Florea, Michael Prysiazny, Elliot Kaufman (donated money back to Oriole CC), Matthew Lai, Jonathan Lai, Nathan Farrant-Diaz and Megan Cheng who played in the Canadian Youth Chess Championship in Quebec City from July 9 to 13. In order to recognize their efforts at the CYCC, Oriole Chess Club is pleased to announce that it would support them by paying a portion of their entry fees. Each of them will be reimbursed $30 at our July 20th meeting.

who had come FIRST
in the
TORONTO JUNIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS that run from October to November 2007. Yuanling had also captured the CHAMPIONS of Ontario High School Chess Championships and Toronto Secondary School Chess Championship earlier this year.



Oriole supports its members to WYCC
The Oriole Chess Club is pleased to announce that it will be supporting two of its members,
NIKITA GUSEVand JONATHAN LAI,
in their efforts at the World Youth Chess Championship held in Antalya, Turkey, this November. Each will be presented $100 at our December 2 meeting to help with their expenses.
On a more general note, the club has resumed operations under new management as of October 21. As our club expands, we hope that we will continue to have the opportunity to support our members in their future competitive endeavors.
