Cyber-criminals Target On-line Gamers.
South Korea is nowadays considered to be a pioneer, as far as advances in web technology are concerned. South Koreans have taken the Internet very seriously and have been an example for many other countries.
On the other hand, the rise of the web industry is not the only sector in South Korea that flourishes. Cyber-crime is rising alongside the legitimate businesses.
According to the South Korean police, web-related crimes have seen a dramatic increase within the last year with quotes reaching 40,000 crimes, or 18% more than last year's average.
Interesting fact is that more than half of these crimes targeted on-line gaming sites. The criminals were targeting these sites in an attempt to intercept the mechanisms that convert cyber-money to hard cash.
Latest reports confirm the arrest of two people that have managed to claim for themselves vast amounts of cyber-currency and convert them in hard cash.
