Surf Report - May 11, 2003

----------------------------------------------------------------------

surfshot.com sez (my comments in bold italics):

Almost glassy and clean out there, waves are breaking at an unusual spot, south of the regular reef.

Maybe 'cause it's a south swell, it's breaking "south of the regular reef?"

My analysis:
Today, it is breaking on the regular reef. This is as good as The Swarm ever gets.

Come on down - only 6 guys out on a great, but highly unusual day!

Mostly mushy rights that fades before getting to the inside.

May get a bit better with lower tide.

Waves size: Knee high

Sets size: Waist high with occasional chest high

Sets Interval: 5 to 6 min

Surfers Out: 6 guys

Wind: Calm

Weather: Sunny

What I say:

Finally, a good day for me at WindanSea.

Had plenty of time, and the waves kept getting better as the tide went down.

Waves were easily a couple of feet overhead - means about 8 foot faces to me - and the set waves were much bigger.

The locals were a bit hostile - and it's pretty amazing that they never punch each other?

Young standouts were Greg Bergen, Adam Warren, Ian Rotgans, Devon's Brother, Carsten Booth, etc.

Older standouts, besides ME, of course, were both the Wave Loch brothers, Buzzy, Pete Almon, Tim Bessell, The Other Tim, and plenty more.

Everybody shredded.

Naturally, I got the biggest and best waves - just kidding!

Later,

BA

Opps Forgot Some Stuff:

Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:

* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.

I'm doing this web thing for a few reasons, and it is, and will be, "a work in progress" for a while:

1. It's an easy way for me to organize my "autobiography" so my kids will know a bit more about me.
2. I find this computer and internet stuff fascinating.
3. I was lucky to be able to start surfing - at least in my opinion - in the "Golden Age" of surfing - I do have some yarns to spin regarding those times.
4. This is an efficient way for some of the old guys to touch bases again - I've received a few e-mails from old (err, long-time) friends I've haven't seen in forty years or so - I think that's way cool.
5. I'm still surfing almost every day - and, at least in my opinion - that's a pretty "boss" thing to write about.
6. I think it will be nice, in a couple of years, to maybe look back at how good - or bad - the surf was in any given stretch of time.
