Surf Report - April 29, 2003

----------------------------------------------------------------------

surfshot.com sez (my comments in bold italics):

Very small waves and a little mixed up.

Weak mushy waves breaking on the very inside.

No one out or even checking the surf this morning at Windansea

Great!!

We go to all the trouble to schedule reserved surfing times at WindanSea - and the kooks don't show...That's gonna cost 'em dearly next time, if there even is a next time!

Waves size: Ankle high

Sets size: Knee high

Sets Interval: 9 min

Surfers Out: None

Wind: Calm from NW

Weather: Cloudy

And I thought yesterday was just about: The best La Jolla EVER gets - Stay Away - April 29, 2003 -

======================================================================

What I say:
Made another surf safari to Driver's.

Bummer, 3 other people out.

One guy was almost in my age group (over 50 but less than 80).

I've surfed with him at Black's - he does surf a lot, too - and JJ's, and noticed that he wore his leash on his right leg.

Dude, I say:
"I thought you were a goofy-foot."

He says:
"Dude BA - I am! I started wearing my leash on my right leg after a visit to my chiro-doc."

Chiro told him:
"Maybe you oughta try wearing your leash on your other (the right) leg. You've been wearing the leash on your left leg for more than 30 years! Maybe you're getting a bit stretched out, on one side - maybe that explains a bit of your back pain???"

My bud sez:
"I've been wearing my leash on my front leg for about 3 years. My back hurts a little less now."

Anyway - the waves were okay at Driver's, much better than Wind**Sea, plus it wasn't my turn to surf the LJ Reefs.

Later,

BA

Opps Forgot Some Stuff:

Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:

* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.

I'm doing this web thing for a few reasons, and it is, and will be, "a work in progress" for a while:

1. It's an easy way for me to organize my "autobiography" so my kids will know a bit more about me.
2. I find this computer and internet stuff fascinating.
3. I was lucky to be able to start surfing - at least in my opinion - in the "Golden Age" of surfing - I do have some yarns to spin regarding those times.
4. This is an efficient way for some of the old guys to touch bases again - I've received a few e-mails from old (err, long-time) friends I've haven't seen in forty years or so - I think that's way cool.
5. I'm still surfing almost every day - and, at least in my opinion - that's a pretty "boss" thing to write about.
6. I think it will be nice, in a couple of years, to maybe look back at how good - or bad - the surf was in any given stretch of time.
