Boogering Part II
Whoa baby - is Boogering like Golf?
I remember - I think - the day I met
Sponge
I was doing a daybreak paddle-out at W***anS** and
I saw a Booger Rider getting a good wave.
I think - I remember - that I gave a "surf hoot" to the rider, and congratulated him on a good ride.
Whoa BA - we thought you hated Boogers!
Explanation for behavior:
I had heard that the locals at this place were pretty hostile, and being new to the spot, I thought I had better be nice to everyone, including a Booger -
So BA what's your point?
My point - besides the fact that I didn't wanna get punched out at Wind**Sea - is simply that good surfing is good surfing!
Unca Billy - whadda mean by "good surfing?"
I'm not gonna go into a bunch of c**p trying to define subjective terms. I think the posted photos of me, indicate that at least I've been surfing for a long time, if nothing else!
I think I'll make a quick analogy:
Question:
Is there a more traditional sport than golf?
Answer:
Probably not!
SO WHAT!!
The PGA is a professional golf tour. It has been for men only - but now a woman - Annika Sorenstam - has qualified to play in a PGA Event.
History Lesson - Ben Hogan is to golf, kindda like Duke is to surfing?
Someone said that Ben Hogan must be rolling over in his grave, now that a woman is gonna play against the men!
Wrong!!
Ben Hogan appreciated good golfing - in fact so much so, that when he was asked who he thought had the most complete golf game, he replied "Babe Zaharias."
Now this Babe was really a babe - a woman!
No way BA!!
Yes way!!
Good golfing, just like good surfing, can be done by a male or a female, wooden clubs or graphite clubs,
Surfboard or Booger Board -
Hit long and accurately, take off deep and late!
Later,
BA

Opps Forgot Some Stuff:
Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:
* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.
I'm doing this web thing for a few reasons, and it is, and will be, "a work in progress" for a while:
1. It's an easy way for me to organize my "autobiography" so my kids will know a bit more about me.
2. I find this computer and internet stuff fascinating.
3. I was lucky to be able to start surfing - at least in my opinion - in the "Golden Age" of surfing - I do have some yarns to spin regarding those times.
4. This is an efficient way for some of the old guys to touch bases again - I've received a few e-mails from old (err, long-time) friends I've haven't seen in forty years or so - I think that's way cool.
5. I'm still surfing almost every day - and, at least in my opinion - that's a pretty "boss" thing to write about.
6. I think it will be nice, in a couple of years, to maybe look back at how good - or bad - the surf was in any given stretch of time.
