October 21, 2004 - (Relatively) New and (Very) Old Behavior(s)

Yesterday, we got some very good waves at a well known, north swell, south wind, secret spot.

I saw a few people drive by, or even stop to look before going on to wherever they were headed -

Hmmmm - good waves, no crowds - must be the "new behavior" of the local surfers - the behavior of the environmentally aware of whatever strikes their fancy at the time.

So, I gotta hand it to:
all of the tv and radio talking heads
and the surf dot com sites
and save the bay nuts
and save the seals dot idiots
and save yourself from whatever may harm you
and let us save you from everything real and / or imagined
You did a great job of warning everybody about the danger(s) of going in the water during, or within 72 hours of a rain!

Yeah baby - you kept them out of the water with your admonitions!

I love the new behavior of the enlightened and environmentally aware media whores, cyber surfers, and (real) surfers!

- But -

After I surfed yesterday, in the rain and its associated VERY dangerous run-off, I had to join the others on the freeway -
Any evidence of changed behaviors on the roads - HELL NO!
Did they leave any earlier for work because of the rain - NO - old behaviors rule!
Did they slow down because of the rain, poor visibility, and slick roads - NO - old behaviors!
Did all of the accidents clogging the roadways slow everybody down - NO WAY -
I'll take the runoff and pollution any day, compared to driving in San Diego during a rain!
