I rarely read the newspapers, unless the are lottsa lingerie ads, with lottsa photos.
I don't own a television, nor a radio, so I am very clueless in San Diego regarding current events, especially political events.
I did happen to catch a news clip about Donna Frye's objections to the closed door sessions that the San Diego City Council seem to favor -
I attended one of those closed door meetings last night, and now I understand why the council is so adamant about keeping their doors tightly locked:
The proposals listed below, all passed with unanimous approval by the city council:
Requested by Friends of the Airport, Special Interest Group:
- The new San Diego International Airport is gonna be built, on a 5 mile long, man made island, that will parallel the coastline from Boomer to Torrey Pines.
- The new airport will be built right at the edge of the La Jolla Canyon [approximately 1 mile offshore], and there will be 3, 15 lane bridges constructed for airport access.
- One bridge will connect the airport from the La Jolla Shuffleboard Clubhouse, another will connect from Scripps Pier, the third from Indian Bath Rock.
Requested by Friends of La Jolla Shores, Special Interest Group:
- The parking lot at The Shores will have a full time [24 hours per day, 7 days per week] parking lot attendant, if you wanna park at The Shores, it's gonna cost you a cool $25 per day - NO EXCEPTIONS!
- The existing bath house at the south end of The Shores will be converted to a coed bath house / massage parlor.
- The existing bath house at the north end of the parking lot will be converted to a 24 - 7 homeless shelter.
- The city is gonna tear-down the existing sea wall and replace it with a 15 foot high chain link fence, topped with barb wire.
- There will be one gate, mid way between the old White House and the Boat Launch.
- If you can't prove that you paid $25 to park in the lot, each person, regardless of age, will have to pay $10 to enter the beach.
- The grass park at the north end of The Shores will be paved, and converted to multi-use athletic areas, including midnight basketball, and miniature golf.
Requested by Friends of Yamaha, Special Interest Group:
- Yamaha will be building a small harbor at Simmons.
- Yamaha will be offering tow-ins at WindanSea any time the surf is above 5 feet, on the wave face.
Requested by Friends of Starbucks, Special Interest Group:
- Starbucks will finally be allowed to build their kiosk, on stilts, directly above the rock, at Big Rock.
Requested by Friends of La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, Special Interest Group:
- The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club will be allowed to purchase the Sea Lodge, and will expand their private property line to the current lifeguard tower.
Requested by Friends of Non-Vertical Surfing, Special Interest Group:
- Body boarders will have priority at all surfing areas from the new Yamaha Harbor area to Seaweed Gulch.
- The body surfing only zone will be increased to include the coastline from The Cove to Little Point.
Requested by Friends of Twang, Special Interest Group:
- The parking lot at WindanSea will be replaced with a park, including a picnic area and children's play area.
- The WindanSea Shack will be moved to a real surfing area, the Tourmaline Surfing Park.
- The Pumphouse at WindanSea will be converted to a half-way house for sex offenders and drug addicts..
Requested by Concerned Citizens Against Everything, Special Interest Group:
- The no alcohol zone will be increased to include the coastline from The Cove to North Bird.
Requested by Friends of Archer Street, Special Interest Group:
- The public access to PB Point will be improved by the installation of 4 elevators between the existing stairs at the south end of The Point, to Haniman's.
Requested by Concerned Citizens for the Improvement of All Surfers, Special Interest Group:
- The Slides Area, from the Marine Room to Goldfish, will become the world's first 24 hour surf park, complete with lights, wave generating machines, and Hooter Girls as lifeguards and surf instructors.
- Surf Divas will be the official, and only city approved surf school, allowed to offer surf instruction on any city beaches.
