Burg Biberstein

Schloss Biberstein

In the 13-th century the counts of Habsburg-Laufenburg established a castle. There originated a moat and a mighty dugeon. In 1280 the first-time mention of beaver stone and the castle occurred. 1335 sold the Habsburg castle and small town to the Maltese Knight's order in Klingnau. 1499 the castle was taken during the Swabian's war by the Bernese.

In 1527 the Bernese tried to tear the rule from beaver stone in themselves and subordinated this without further ado to a landvogt who resided from now on in the castle. Eight years later, after introduction of the Reformation, the Bernese forced the Maltese Knights to the sales. The castle became 1587 severely damaged, after a woman had set on fire this. Around 1670 one cleared away the donjon because of dilapidation up to the first floor. By superstructures the castle received bit by bit the character of a castle. In 1784 it burned once more; however, the fire brigade from Aarau was quick to the place and the damages limited themselves to the roof framework.
