Alcase first conquered by Julius Ceasar as Prima Germana in the first century BC. Became part of the Roman Empire of Charlemagne. When Charlemagne's grandsons split up the empire in 843, it became part of the kingdom of Lorraine. Attacked by both French and Germans, it did not last very long. It was absorbed by the Holy Roman empire, under the duchy of Swabia.
