I own a Meade ETX-70. Although rarely used (due to clouds almost every night) this is a fine instrument. With a maximum power of 263x (using a 4mm eyepiece and a 3x barlow lens) and a price of under $300, this a great buy. Even with a 9mm eyepiece and a 3x barlow, you can easily see the clouds on Jupiter, the rings of Saturn and many other things in this Solar System. The telescope has an Autostar system. Simply by aligning the telescope, you can press GOTO and the telescope will slew to and track over 5000 objects. The only tricky part is aligning the telescope. The telescope has to be pointing north, and exactly level for Autostar to work. After setting that position, it is easy. The telescope slews to two different stars, and you have to center these stars in the eyepiece.
