Places of interest in Spain – Navarre

Navarre is located in the North of Spain. It is a part of the Basque province and it is popular for its natural beauty. This region has a history of its own and it is influenced by various civilizations. According to historians, Navarre was inhabited by people who belonged to Vascones culture. That was prior to Romans occupying this city. After initial defeat, Romans managed to take over the city from Vascones.

This was followed by Moors and later Christians took over the city. This is one of the most populated cities of Spain. The famous Ebro valley of Navarre is most ideal for growing vegetables, wheat and wine. The area is rich in vegetation and the nature looks stunningly beautiful here. Apart from tourism, Navarre is also a trade centre.

This castle called Palacio de los Reyes de Navarra is believed to have been built in the year 1406. It was altered later and a palace was also built inside the castle. It is an impressive structure having 15 towers and the walls are battlemented. Timber roof is another uniqueness of this castle.

Church San Miguel Arcangel:

This church has the beautiful combination of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture. The doorway of the church is beautifully designed in typical Romanesque design. The door has five columns and each column depicts the scene starting from the birth of Christ to Plant ornament. The Lord’s figure is surrounded by Evangelists symbol. The works of sculpture here are the best examples showing the mastery of the artists.

Church Santo Sepulcro:

This is yet another church built in Gothic design and it is believed to have been constructed in the 12th century. On the doorway of the church, crucifixion of the Lord and the Resurrection has been beautifully depicted. Statues of Apostles adorn the entry of the Church. The interior of the church is luxuriously decorated.

Beautiful buildings:

When you visit the Town hall, you will notice that on both sides of the road there are many beautiful buildings. These were buildings occupied by noblemen. Casa de Fray Diego de Estella believed to have been built in the 16th century and Palacio del Gobernador built in the 17th century occupy prominent position. These two buildings steal the show and no visitor misses these two buildings.
