PUPPY  INFORMATION

Inquiries about puppies and questions about the breed are always welcome. Puppy prices range from $1,200 to $3,000 depending on quality, pedigree, age, size, and sex. Shipping charges are extra (see below), and everything has to be paid in advance. Payments may be made by cashier's check, money order, personal check (needs 10 to 14 days to clear). All puppies will be vet checked, wormed, have the appropriate number of shots for their age, and a State of Alabama Health Certificate before leaving for new homes. Some puppies will have breeding restrictions. I do not ship puppies under ten weeks old. I do not let the very tiny ones leave until they are 12 to 14 weeks old, or older depending on how tiny they are.  I do not like to ship the very tiny ones at all.  They should be picked up. My puppies are registered with the American Kennel Club.   I give a one year guarantee against hereditary or genetic diseases.

Tinsel Town puppies are available once or twice a year to special loving homes only. These puppies require "family member" status and must live inside the home. If you live in a rural area, great care must be taken when Yorkies are outside even in a fenced yard. I know of two tiny adult Yorkies that were carried off for dinner by hawks.  Apparently the hawks think they are rabbits, their natural prey.  Owls can also be a danger. Yorkies also seem to think that they can take on larger dogs like Dobermans . They do not seem to realize how small and fragile they really are. You must safeguard your Yorkie as you would a toddler. Yorkies usually have no fear of heights, and will try to jump off of anything. Unfortunately, if they jump from too high a place or land wrong, their tiny little bones will break.  I prefer not sell puppies to families with small children or large dogs because it is so easy for Yorkies to be accidentally hurt by small children or killed by larger dogs.

As most Yorkie puppies are "wiggle worms", I always make children sit down on the floor to play with them to avoid falling accidents. After talking to a number of adults lately that have "dropped" their babies, this might not be a bad idea for adults too! They like you better down on their level anyway and will crawl all over you jumping and playing, pulling your hair, and giving you kisses. They will even go to sleep on top of you if you happen to be lying on the floor when they run out of steam. Expect your baby to want to sleep in your bed with you. Yorkies seem to think that it is "their" bed, and they are sharing it with you. All of my adult life I have said that I would never allow any dog to sleep in my bed. Well, after I got my first Yorkie, I had to eat those words! I have so many Yorkies now that they have to take turns, or there would be no room for me.  Usually there are at least eight in bed with me every night.  A couple of them are bed hogs and a couple others kick!  At least one of them wants to share my pillow with me.  They all want to be touching me.  It has gotten so that I can not even roll over in the bed any more.  They have me pinned down.  In the winter they really keep me warm.  It's like having a bunch of little heating pads all around me.

I feed all of my Yorkies Purina One Growth & Management Puppy Formula Lamb and Rice.  I leave dry food available 24 hours a day because Yorkies are nibblers and nibbling throughout the day helps maintain their blood sugar at a constant  level.  Puppies get a "wet" meal twice a day (dry food soaked in warm water to soften with Mighty Dog Chicken Egg & Bacon added) in addition to the dry food available all the time.  The "wet" food is easier for them to eat, especially when their gums are sore from teething.  They will usually wean themselves over to all dry food when they are ready.

All of my puppies are started on "six in one" shots at six to seven weeks of age.  They get a shot every three weeks until they have had three shots.  I do not vaccinate for Leptospirosis as Yorkies tend to have bad reactions to the Lepto serum.  I recommend waiting until they are five to six months old if possible before getting their rabies shots.  Puppies are usually wormed at least four times before leaving.  I use Revolution (Rx) on all my dogs monthly to protect against heartworms, fleas, ticks, ear mites, and body mites. I have had great results with Revolution which is a once a month application of liquid between the shoulder blades to cover everything.  I like the fact that it doesn't wash off when they get a bath like most  monthly flea products do.  If I could find something to "repel" flower bed mulch and dead leaves, I would be truly happy!

SHIPPING  INFORMATION

I will be glad to ship puppies if possible and if weather conditions permit. Puppies must be at least ten weeks old to be shipped. I do not ship the very tiny ones.  They have to be picked up. I ship via Delta Airlines Pet First for VIP treatment to anywhere in the continental U.S. I do not ship overseas.  Delta Pet First insures the best care for shipping live animals. They are put into a heated/ cooled/ pressurized compartment below the cockpit. Delta personnel take them personally to and from the planes and deliver them to the person waiting for them. This means that they do not have to sit on luggage trolleys for who knows how long in all kinds of weather and maybe get lost. I have never had a problem using Delta.  Shipping cost runs $225.00 and includes air fare, flight insurance, final vet exam, any shots needed,  State of Alabama Health Certificate, Certificate of Acclimation in the winter, and a USDA/Airline approved shipping crate.  I always attach a bag of food and a bottle of sugar water to the shipping crate. I will be glad to meet you at the airport with your puppy if you decide to fly into Birmingham and pick it up yourself.
