Our family history organization is committed to research, preservation and publication of the family histories of Escambia County, Alabama citizenry. We are a non-profit organization which does not discriminate based on race,creed or color. Membership is by invitation.

Our friends at the Department of Archives have announced a new series of programs which will be held on the second Saturday in each month from 10:00 to 11:00 Am. These programs are free and do not require pre-registration. All programs take place in the Alabama Power Auditorium at ADAH. A complete list of topics and dates follows:

ECGS Third Annual Holiday Celebration for the Heroes of World War II

On Saturday, December 13, 2008, our Escambia County Genealogy Society will hold its Third Annual Heroes of World War II Celebration in the Conference Room of the Atmore Public Library. The Holiday event will be held from 9am until 12 noon. Delicious holiday pastries will be served, along with coffee and soft drinks. Door prizes will be awarded.

Our featured speaker will be Alabama State Representative, Alan Baker, who lives in Brewton. A DVD of World War II will be shown after Representative Baker’s speech. The public is invited to attend! You are encouraged to come out and bring a friend! Everyone is welcome, including veterans of any wars, as well as current members of the armed forces. There is no charge for the event!

Department of Archives Loose Records Project- Escambia County

Our ECGS Loose Records Project is going well. Our Escambia County Loose Records Staff was honored with an Awards Day in Montgomery at the Alabama Department of Archives on Saturday,October 20, 2007. All total, four people from our Escambia County went up for the event! It was a big success and everyone enjoyed it.

A History of Escambia County, In Photos

Our staff is currently preparing to publish the book, "A History of Escambia County,In Photos". All proceeds from the sale of this book will be deposited into our ECGS Scholarship Fund. If you have any family photos or histories that you wish to have published in this books, please contact us immediately! Time is drawing short for publication.
