LOWLANDS RENEWAL PROJECT: Lowlands
has now closed to the public while a £1.1 million renovationof the building
takes place.
Nearly £1 million has been granted
by the Heritage Lottery Fund with other trusts, charities and individuals
giving their support.
The whole Grade II-listed building,
from the drains to the roof, will be refurbished, bringing the mansion back to
its original Victorian appearance. There will be improved access with a lift
serving both the ground and first floors.
Research has revealed the probable
original exterior and interior colour schemes which will be replicated. It has
been revealed that the exterior has been painted 20 times since 1846!
Work is expected to be completed by
September 2008 when the building will be reopened with improved facilities and
more rooms for hire. Updates on progress will be posted on this site.
