Singing My Songs
From Paquitos, September 11, 2004

From 'Two Friends' in Key West, October 2, 2004

The program always begins the same. I sing the Elvis favorite, 'Can't Help Falling In Love With You'. Next is Englebert Humperdink's 'After The Loving'. Sometimes DJ, 'Willie L', sets them on a double, I sing the first song with the other right after. If there are a lot of singers I have to wait for a later call to sing the second. They are always well received at Paquitos, and I get lots of compliments. The owner asked me to sing Englebert Humperdink's 'Release Me', so I learned it and sing it once in a while. He rewards me with a margarita. :-)
Paquitos Saturday late nights are a getaway time for me, too late for Nancy, probably too noisey, too.
At Two Friends, I have always been quite pleased with the crowd's approval. As I finished the Elvis song Saturday night I heard applause from behind me outside the open window and a lady's voice saying, "Beautiful. That was just beautiful." I looked around and there were two couples and a another person out there. I thanked them, and felt pretty dam good about their having stopped to listen as I sang. Nancy said there were a lot of people singing along. The King lives on.
I've recently added another song, Willie Nelson tune, 'You Were Always On My Mind'.
