ROCKY

A Real American Hero

-a site created by Joseph Casey-

Rocky is by far the greatest movie series of all time.  Rocky is the story of a bum who became a boxer.  A boxer who became a champion.  A champion who became an American hero.  In all of the Rocky movies he has overcome the odds to beat the best.  Although Rocky is a fictional charcater he is probably the next most famous boxer next to Muhhammed Ali.

As a child growing up, I was always into movies, books and video games. My favorite movie growing up was Rocky II. I must have watched that movie a million times. It is one of the first movies that I can remember watching with my whole family and being intrigued the entire time. I remember pleading with my mom to tell me what happens at the end because I could not take the suspense. I did not want to wait and I definitly did not want to see Rocky lose. I guess I should have known they were not going to make Rocky lose two movies in a row, but I was just a child.

The longest lasting memory that this movie left on me was the last round of the boxing match in Rocky II. It is a scene where both boxers are exhausted, and in the final seconds of the round both simultaneously connect on punches, sending both boxers sprawling to the mat. The moment that sticks out most is that the ref is doing the ten count and at that moment we realize that who ever can get up before the other will win the bout. Both boxers are struggling to get up, trying to pull on the ropes for support, and as the ref gets to '8' Apollo Creed looks as if he's going to make it but he loses all energy and falls to the mat as Rocky victorioulsy rises to his feet. It is in that moment that I remember most because after all the effort Rocky had put in, all the punches he had to endure he still had to dig deep within himself for one more ounce of energy, and became the heavyweight champion of the world.
