How do you know the Bible is true?
Topic: Apologetics
(1) The Bible is the best-selling book in the world.
That alone doesn't mean that the Bible is true, but because it is the best-selling book in history, we should take a look at it. Approximately 150 million Bibles are printed per year! No other book even comes close.
If people spend time reading Shakespeare or John Grisham, why don't they read the most popular book in the world? There is a good chance the Bible contains at least some truth; reading it is a great way to find out.
(2) The Bible claims to be written by God.
All Scriptue is given by inspiration of God...(2nd Timothy 3:16)
Fro the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:21)
However, just because the Bible claims God as its author, does that mean He is? Actually, no it doesn't. I could write you a letter telling you what to do, and sign it "Love, God." But that doesn't mean God wrote it.
WE need more proof than that. One preacher stated that the Bible uses "thus saith the Lord" and similar phrases over 3,000 times. The Bible claims its authorship is divine, not human.
(3) Historical evidence supports the Bible.
No one has yet been able to identify a single historical mistake anywhere in the Bible. That in itself is amazing. If man wrote it, we would cetainly find historical errors after all these years but there is none. So that you can study more on this point, as well as on the next two, I recommend that you read any of the following books:
New Evidence that demands a verdict, by Josh McDowell(Thomas Nelson)
The Case for Christ, by Lee Strobel(Zondrvan Corp.)
The Signature of God, by Grant Jeffrey(Word)
All three books provide powerful evidence that the Bible is not from the hands of man, but from the hand of Almighty God.
(4)Archeological evidence supports the Bible.
To date, archaeologist have not discovered a single thing in the Middle East that has proved the Bible wrong. As a matter of fact, each additional discovery continues to prove it true. There have been more than 25,000 archaeological finds relating to people, places, and events in the Bible, and not one has contradicted anything in the Scripture. That's incredible proof of the Bible's trustwortiness.
The three books mentioned above contain numerous quotes and great information about this archaeological evidence, so I won't try to repeat it here.
If you can believe the historical and archaeological evidence for the Bible, why don't you think you can believe the spiritual part of the book?
(5) Fulfilled prophecies validate the Bible.
here?s how I take people through ?the Prophets?:
Christian: ?If I predicted that tomorrow you?ll get into a car wreck, & I predicted who hit you, how much damage was done & how long it would take the get your car repaired, you?d have to admit that would be pretty freaky, right??
Atheist: ?Right.?
Christian: ?Now imagine if I told you on day two who would call you, what you would talk about, and then day three, I predicted an incident that would happen at your work & I was accurate. Now for five days straight I would predict something for the following day in your life & it came true. If, by the end of day five, I came to tell you what would happen on the sixth day, would you believe me??
Atheist: ?But that?s not going to happen.?
Christian: ?Well, here my out. Just imagine it did happen.?
Atheist: ?OK.?
Christian: ?Would you believe me??
Atheist: ?Of course.?
Christian: ?Now I?ve got five Bible prophecies for you:
1. The Bible predicted about 3,000 years ago that Israel will become a nation again. They did in 1948. (Ezekiel 36)
2. The temple for sacrificing will be rebuilt in Jerusalem & the Jewish leaders are now planning to rebuild it. (Daniel 9:27)
3. Jews would come from all around the world to go back to Israel. Isn?t that what they?re still doing? (Ezekiel 36)
4. Jerusalem will become a burden to the world. That?s happening now, too. (Zechariah 12:2-3)
5. The Bible predicts that the Roman Empire will re-emerge again as the last ?empire? to be the world power before Jesus comes to claim His throne in Jerusalem. That?s the European Union! In fact, this new Roman Empire will be even greater in size than the last. (Daniel 2)
?Now you said that you?d believe me in 5 days. So, now that you see Bible prophecy unfolded, you can guarantee that the Bible is true.? (Then I bring the conversation back to the conscience by talking about the sins the atheist just admitted to committing.)?So, if the Bible is proven through prophecy, then we can guarantee that all liars, thieves, adulterers, blasphemers, revilers, etc. shall have their part in the eternal lake of fire.?
I?ve taken quite a few atheists or even others that don?t believe the Bible, through both the Law and the Prophets and no one has ever told me that I?ve got my facts wrong. The only thing a person can say is that the prophecy examples I used are vague. How can any of what I just said be vague? Ask the atheist that. He won?t have an answer.
Of course, you can shorten this to 3 prophecies. But when you use it, it really doesn't take that long at all.

Is Bill Maher a Chicken?
Topic: Apologetics
The author of a new book called, Intelligent Design Versus Evolution—letters to an atheist has challenged Bill Maher to a public debate.
Ray Comfort maintains, “Mr. Maher, like all believers in the theory of evolution simply has a blind faith in a theory-tale that can’t be substantiated. It’s just another opiate of the masses--a religion called ‘Darwinism’ that piously robes itself in what it thinks is ‘science.’ It is true science fiction.”
The author adds, “I am beginning to suspect that some men may have evolved from chickens, or at least that’s the impression I get when it comes to evolutionists standing up for their convictions. Mr. Maher can choose the place of the debate. I don’t mind if he has it in front of his audience. He can bill it as ‘Another simple-minded Christian being thrown to the lions.’”
He maintains that the political satirist was woefully misinformed last year when he lashed out at intelligent design and said, “Evolution is supported by the entire scientific community . . . the reason there is no real debate, is that intelligent design isn't real science.
The author said, “I can scientifically prove intelligent design. Let’s have 20 minutes each. I present my case (I won’t even mention “faith”) and then he can present his case for evolution. I say that he doesn’t have one. He’s bluffing. I don’t mind if he spends his 20 minutes telling jokes, because that’s all he has.”
In 2001, Comfort was flown from Los Angeles to Orlando, Florida by American Atheists, Inc., to be a platform speaker at their 27th National Convention. “They not only paid my airfare, but they even put me up in a nice hotel, and kindly gave me a gift basket when I arrived.”
He has also spoken on the subject of intelligent design at Yale, UCLA and other prestigious learning institutions. His publication “The Atheist Test” has sold over 700,000 copies. He’s the author of more than 50 books, including, God Doesn’t Believe in Atheists and, The Evidence Bible (2002 Gold Medallion Award finalist). He also produced an co-hosted “The Science of Evolution,” which won 2005 NRB “People’s Choice” and “Best Program Award.”
As for Maher’s claim that “intelligent design isn’t real science,” Comfort points out that the concept of Intelligent Design originated with scientists and it’s the scientific evidence that lead them to that conclusion. “Hundreds of scientific scholars and researchers throughout the world support it—including scientists with the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the Smithsonian Institute, with doctoral degrees in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, medicine, computer science, and related disciplines, from universities such as Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. So Mr. Maher can’t dismiss the idea as ‘not scientific’ just because he doesn’t like that conclusion.”
Comfort adds that Intelligent Design is supported by scientist Fritz Schaefer, four times nominated for a Nobel Prize; Oxford Professor Antony Flew, the famous British philosopher and atheist who acknowledged that intelligent design proves there is a Creator; and Professor Michael Behe, the biochemist who has proven the “irreducible complexity” of the human cell structure. According to Behe, “Intelligent design is based on observed, empirical, physical evidence from nature.”
The best-selling author also points out that Intelligent Design Versus Evolution—letters to an atheist gives both sides of the issue. “The book contains scores of letters written by a very intelligently designed atheist who gives evolution’s best arguments. I think that’s healthy. Yet pro-evolution pseudo-intellectuals are calling for censorship, by not allowing school kids the freedom to listen to both sides of the argument. That reveals their insecurity.”
Comfort added, “It was the British journalist and philosopher Malcolm Muggeridge who so aptly said, ‘I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially the extent to which it has been applied, will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future.’ Perhaps Mr. Maher has thought about the issue and will admit that it was all a new standup routine—that evolution is just a ‘great joke,’ and we will laugh together. I’d love to hear from him, but I won’t be holding my breath.”

The Book of Judas
Topic: Apologetics
Did Judas write this before or after he hung himself from the guilt of betraying christ?
If he wasn't the author...
How did the author gather the information... was it before or after Judas hung himself for the guilt of betraying Christ....?
and thirdly... If Jesus told Judas he would be the greatest for betraying him... was that before or after Judas hung himself for the guilt of betraying Christ?
The geatest contradiction is not what the gospel of Judas said.. as much as it is that anyone gave creedence to it... because Judas did in fact hang himself for the guilt of betraying christ.. after he threw the thirty pieces of silver back at the Pharisees...
That is undebatable...
Judas hung himself... because he knew he was guilty... which was why he returned the thirty pieces of silver...
if that hadn't happened... the early Jews would have had a field daywith the rest of the scriptures as to their authenticity...
but the fact is the early church, and the early skeptics, had absolutely no viable evidence that their was any reason to disbelieve that Judas was a traitor.. which all of history records...

Using the law and prophesy:part two
Topic: Apologetics
Sometimes there are those people that need an intellectual nudge to coincide with their conscience. Most of them are atheists. In his book, “God Doesn’t Believe in Atheists”, Ray Comfort satisfies both the conscience (heart) and the intellect (mind). An atheist typically writes off his conscience because everything he believes in is based on science, supposedly; therefore, he overlooks all conviction.
When talking with an atheist, you’ll find that there is one thing that they use to try to persuade others into believing there is no God. And it’s not science, although they want you to believe that. Actually, what they use to persuade people is intimidation, an emotion! Imagine that! They accuse us of trying to persuade people by trying to stir the emotions and yet that’s exactly what they use! Just read Josh’s “Australian Atheists” post. The letters he received only insult believers yet don’t even demonstrate science to prove the author’s point.
The term “The Law and the Prophets” or “Moses and the Prophets” were used by the early church to persuade others to believe in Jesus as the Messiah. As we all know, the Law is perfect at converting the soul (Psalm 19:7a). Yet the rest of that verse says, “…the testimony of the LORD (Yahweh) is sure, making wise the simple.” Prophecy is a testimony of God to the unbeliever. This verse sums up the need to use the “Law and the Prophets.” Revelation 19:10b says "For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." (Emphasis added.) Psalm 19:7 sums up "The Law and The Prophets." Isn't God's Word so perfect?!!
Prophecy is one thing science can NOT explain away. It demonstrates that the Bible is fact, not just an opinion. And prophecy “is sure, making wise the simple.” We simple-minded people (so the atheist says) need to become wise to prophecy as Jesus told us to. In Matthew 16:1-4, Jesus called the religious leaders hypocrites for not discerning the signs of the times. This is a lesson to us as we should stay educated in the Word comparing it to today’s events. Prophecy is not as complicated as it may seem. It’s just a matter of first understanding Daniel chapter 2 as all Bible prophecy revolves around this chapter. Visit www.prophecywatch.com and watch the videos on Daniel chapter 2.
We must stay educated on world events to watch the prophecies unfold for 2 reasons:
1) To be watchful as the 5 wise virgins (Mat. 25), and
2) to reason with non-believers.
Once in awhile I will briefly use prophecy in 1-2-1’s so to satisfy the intellect. Some people need a little intellectual satisfaction so that their minds coincide with their conscience. Once both the intellect and the conscience are aligned, both will be pointing in the same direction for a vertical conversion, not horizontal (as Ray would say).
Peter used both the Law and the Prophets in Acts chapter 2 & thousands were saved!
Scripture referring to the Law and the Prophets:
Luke 16:29-30 Lazarus & the Rich Man
After the rich man told Abraham to send someone from the dead, his response was, ?If they do not hear Moses (the Law) & the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.?
Luke 24:25-27 Jesus talked with the 2 men that didn?t recognize Him
When the 2 men were sad because Jesus died, Jesus then ?beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.?
Acts 26:22-23 Paul before King Agrippa
Paul stood on fact that Jesus, the Messiah, would suffer as??the prophets & Moses said??
Acts 28:23 Paul spoke to the leaders of the Jews
??persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.?
Romans 3:21-22
?But now the righteousness of God apart from the Law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.?
Also: Matthew 7:12, 11:13, 22:40, Luke 16:16-17, John 1:45
Acts 2: 14-42 Peter uses the Law and the Prophets
v.17-21: Peter discussed prophecy from Joel.
v.21-24: Then tells the crowd they murdered the Holy One (breaking the 6th Commandment).
v.25-35: Revisted prophecy as he spoke about David.
v.36: Revisited the Law by stating that Jesus is the One ?whom you crucified?.
v.37-39: Only after bringing the conscience and intellect in line for a vertical conversion did Peter finally give them grace.
If any Christian suggests that we are wrong to talk about sin with the non-believer just remind them that Peter used the Law only moments after he was baptized in the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
This is a good example of how use prophesy as a tool to prove the Bible's truth and take it back to the fact that they should be even more assured that God has set aside a day in which He'll judge the world in righteousness (thus taking it back to the conscience).
Prophecy will NOT convert the soul. Understanding prophecy will not cause someone to turn towards Christ but yet it conditions the mind of the atheist to see what he doesn't understand: That there is a God & He is the God of the Judeo-Christian Bible.
Once that is established, his conscience is ready to be plowed to plant the seed.
Plus, the new Christians that are struggling in their faith needs to understand prophecy, too. It will solidify their faith as it has solidified mine.
