In this gallery, I will include various road pictures from throughout the "Crooked Letter State." The above picture is a nice shot of what it looks like crossing the I-20 Mississippi River Bridge from Vicksburg into Louisiana. This shot was taken on the Mississippi side with Louisiana lying shortly ahead.
Interstate 55 South at Mississippi 6 in Batesville. Mississippi 6 is an east-west route that serves north central Mississippi.
US 45 North at US 78 in Tueplo. US 78 is “Corridor X,” and may receive the Interstate 22 designation once it is complete in Alabama and Tennessee.
Interstate 55 South at Interstate 20 in Jackson. At this point 55 South will have a brief duplex with I-20 West. Also note the use of McComb as the control city for I-55 south instead of New Orleans.
US 45 North at US 78 in Tueplo. US 78 is “Corridor X,” and may receive the Interstate 22 designation once it is complete in Alabama and Tennessee.
US 45 South at Mississippi 25 North and Mississippi 8 East south of Aberdeen. US 45 will reach Columbus in about 25 miles from this point.
US 45 South at Interstate 59 East of Meridian. US 45 is Mississippi's major north-south route in the far eastern portions of the state serving Cornith, Tueplo, Aberdeen, Columbus, Macon, Meridian, etc.
Interstate 220 South at Exit 5 in Jackson. US 49 will continue to the south end of 220 and then travel east on Interstate 20. US 49 will exit off of I-20 at Exit 47 in Pearl and begin its southerly journey towards Hattiesburg.
Interstate 20 West at Interstate 55 in Jackson. Interstate 55 will split off from 20 two miles to the west at Exit 44 while US 49 will depart from 20 at Interstate 220 (Exit 41). Grenada, Mississippi (a town with a population of just over 10,000 people located 110 miles north of the city) is used as the northbound control city for 55 in lieu of Memphis throughout Jackson.
Interstate 10 East at US 49 North in Gulfport. US 49 will reach Hattiesburg in just over fifty miles to the north and see its southern end about four miles to the south at US 90.
Interstate 110 South at Bayview Ave. in Biloxi. The traffic light in the background marks Interstate 110's draw bridge over the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway just north of Biloxi.
Cutout Mississippi 178 and US 45 Shields in Tueplo. This is a nice shot of cutout shields for both Mississippi 178 and US 45 on McCullough Boulevard in Tupelo. The Mississippi 178 cutout is very strange in that it is shaped like a 3-di shield. There are actually three sets of these cutouts leading motorists to US 45 North on Mississippi 178 East.
Interstates 20 and 59 at their Split in Meridian. This marks the end of the 20/59 duplex that stretches 150 miles between Birmingham, Alabama and Meridian. From this point, people traveling to Jackson will reach Mississippi's capitol in about 90 miles. Those continuing on 59 South will reach Laurel (a small Mississippi town of just over 18,000 residents) in just over 50 miles with New Orleans lying about 120 miles south of Laurel. However, 59 never actually makes it to New Orleans, as 59's southern end rests in Slidell, about 20 miles to the northeast of the city, so those going to "the Big Easy" must take I-10 West into the city.
