Who Is God?
“Who is the Lord, that I should hear His voice” (Exodus 8:2)
I. Who is God? The Eternal Creator
a. He is Eternal. “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” (Psalm 90:2)
b. He is Creator of all things. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
II. Who is God? God is a spiritual being. “God is a spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24)
• God is:
a. Omniscient, or all-knowing. (Psalm 139:1-6)
b. Omnipresent, or everywhere. (Psalm 139:7-12)
c. Omnipotent, or all-powerful. (Psalm 139:13-16)
III. Who is God? God is love. “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (I John 4:8) “But God commandeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
IV. Who is God? God is good and severe. “Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in His goodness: otherwise thou also shall be cut off.” (Romans 11:22) Example of Nadab and Abihu. (Leviticus 10) “For our God is a consuming fire…” (Hebrews 12:29)
V. Who is God? God is our Father in heaven.
• God is our Father; we are his children. “For ye are all the sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Galatians 3:26-27)
