Resurrection!

• Easter, as a religious holiday, is not of Biblical origin. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation for our hope as Christians, and the resurrection of Jesus is Biblical. Easter, a manmade holiday of celebration, is not Biblical. Job 14:14

I. Jesus’ resurrection. Matthew 28:1-6
          a. Foretold (Matthew 16:21; John 2:19-21)
         b. Preached as fact. (Acts 2:24, 29-34)
         c. Declared Jesus to be the Son of God. (Romans 1:4)
         d. Was for our justification. (Romans 4:25)
         e. So that we might be made alive. (I Corinthians 15:21-22)
         f. Demonstrates the mighty power of God. (Ephesians 1:19-20)

II. A spiritual resurrection
         a. It is a resurrection for the spiritually dead. (Isaiah 59:1-2, Ephesians 2:1-3)
                  • “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23)
         b. Jesus spoke of it. (John 5:24-26)
         c. Paul wrote of it. (Colossians 2:11-12; 3:1-4)
         d. This spiritual resurrection takes place at baptism. (Romans 6:3-11)
                  • “like as Christ was raised from the dead b the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.” (Romans 6:4-5)

III. The Physical Resurrection
         • “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of condemnation” (John 5:28-29)
         • “And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.” Acts 24:15)
         • We will give an account.
         “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12)
         “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (II Corinthians 5:10)
