1. King Belshazzar was going to take the golden and silver vessels that had been taken from the temple and use them to drink.
2. The writing on the wall.
~ MENE: God has numbered your kingdom and finished it.
~ TEKEL: You are weighed in the balances and found wanting.
~ UPHARSIN: Your kingdom is divided and will be given to the Medes and Persians.
3. Today, we are weighed in the balances. The standards by which we will be judged is the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:16)
I. The Bible contains moral standards.
"...the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God..." (1 Corinthians 6:9) "Now the works of the flesh are manifest which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. . .and they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." (Galatians 5:19,21)
II. The Bible contains social standards.
A. Paul instructed against "debates, envyings, wraths, strife, backbitings, whisperings..." (2 Corinthians 12:20)
B. The fruit of the Spirit is "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..." (Galatians 5:22-23)
III. The Bible contains worship standards.
A. Not all worship is worship! (1 Corinthians 11:22)
B. Worship must be in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)
C. Ways men reject the standard of the Bible in worship: by thinking about other things rather than worshipping and by introducing things into worship that are not condoned by God.
When you are weighed in the balances, will you be found wanting?
