Is Getting Tattooed A SIN?

Being raised in a small southern community, the Bible and my belief in Jesus are very important to me. So it bothered me when people started telling me that getting tattooed is a sin. After some thorough research I have come to the conclusion that most people dont know what they are talking about. ( Big suprise, right?) Anyway, I want to publish the facts and set the story straight so if anyone says something along those lines to you, you will know the truth.
The first four books of the Bible are the books of Moses. they are a history lesson to for the Jews, and a set of laws for them to live by. The 10 commandments were to hard for them to understand so Moses tryed to go into great detail about what was a sin. The particular passage about tattoos was actually refering to a pagan practice of mourning the dead by cutting themselves, cutting their hair, and tattooing symbols of pagan gods upon themselves. Anytime you honor any pagan god, it is a sin. BUT if you read close it also says not to cut your hair or beard also. Funny how no one mentions that.
The bottom line is, like everything else, it is whats in your heart that is important, not the color in your skin.
