onelinedrawing
- visitor
/jade tree Although new to Jade Tree, onelinedrawing, well the genius behind onelinedrawing, has been around for a while. Jonah Matranga started off with the major label success Far, producing him a cult-like following and allowing him to record and release 4 EP’s on his own through his self managed website (www.onelinedrawing.com). His success in selling 30,000 copies of those releases provides a possible look into the future of the music industry, where distribution and promotion can be achieved on the bands own, without the help of the label. “Visitor” is evidence of Jonah’s progression as a musician. The release mixes the Nick Drake-like melancoly songs such as “Bitt Ein Kuss” with the upbeat pop ballads such as “Smile”, which proclaims, “Hey yea, Hey yea, Anything I Can Do It.” Smile is a great song. After one listen you will be singing along. If anything else, buy the cd just for this song. Another interesting aspect of the release is that it was recorded entirely outside his room on a Mac G3 400 Powerbook, more evidence on how much easier it is getting for bands to produce and market their own music. With fans listed to the likes of Chris Carrabba, Linkin Park, and Blink 182, it seems that Jonah is both ahead and respected by the music industry. Overall, this is a solid release for Jade Tree that should do well. Rating
