My Wing

"This Bike Was Sold"

I'm starting to add info about my Gold Wing, so this page will grow with time.
I purchased a 1986 Honda GL1200SE-I Gold Wing on 6/23/01. It had just over 59,000 miles on it. It had been down, but I don't think it was bad. The guy I bought it from had replaced the front fairing and the lid to the top case. It appears that when he replaced the fairing, he didn't get all of the wiring to the radio just right. I was able to get the CB working properly, but I was not able to get the factory stereo working.
I really like music, so I improvised. I installed a Sony CDX-C5000X flip front in-dash AM/FM/CD with 50 watts per channel. I didn't want to have to change CDs while riding so I also installed a Sony CDX-646 10 disc CD changer. This unit is controlled from the dash unit and is connected with RCA jacks to the rear of the stereo(not a fm modulator).
I didn't like the way the speakers sounded, so I installed 4 JBL P-432 2-way 120w speakers with passive crossovers.
The stereo installation was not easy. It looks like the bike was designed so only a factory stereo would fit. It took some cutting and fabrication, but I got it in.

NOW THIS BIKE HAS A KICK ASS STEREO !

I guess I've been spoiled to BMWs. I've just not been happy with this bike. It handles well for it's size, but I just think a BMW suits my riding style better. Most of my riding is to and from work and around town. I like a BMW better in traffic. The Wing gets kind of hot in traffic during our Alabama summers and has way more gadgets than I need.
I sold the Wing for way less than it was worth. It was an expensive lesson, but I know now that Gold Wings are not for me.
