Adam Sheffield born, 1760 NC. and died 1844 Benton Co. AL. It appears he married a Priscilla who was born 1765, and died 1839 St. Clair Co. AL.

If this is correct then Adam married after the death of Priscilla as in his estate in 1844, the wife's name is Elly.

May l, 1840 (received); Petition of Elly Shuffield of lawful age and a citizen of Benton County, Alabama, as widow of Adam Shuffield late of Benton Co. Alabama, deceased, for dower.

Adam Shuffield died owning Fraction N of Fractional Sec 31 in Fractional T13 R6E-39 94/100 acres; and Fraction O of Fractional Sec 31 Fractional T13 R6E - 43 20/100 acres; NE corner which he sold before his death

Adam Shuffield died intestate. Isham Shuffield, one of his sons over the age of 21 years and a citizen of Benton County, Alabama is Administrator.

Other children of said intestate are:

She married Adam Sheffield Abt. 1789, son of John Sheffield and Hanna Melton. He was born Abt. 1754 in Moore Co., NC, and died 1844 in Benton CO., AL.

1. Polly Sheffield, born about 1792. She married Berry Dodd September 25, 1810.

2. Nancy Sheffield, born about 1794 and died November, 1867. Married Mark Phillips

3. Hannah Sheffield, born about 1797; married Robert Weems.

4. Nathan Sheffield, born June 09, 1789
5. Wesley Sheffield, born about 1798
6. Pleasant Sheffield, born about 1802.
7. Lydia Sheffield, born about 1800. Married E. Boland born about 1800.

8. Milly Jones, formerly Milly Shuffield, now the wife of William Jones, born about 1803.

Sally Wesson, formerly Sally Shuffield, now the wife of Thomas Wesson, born Abt. 1804
Adam Shuffield, born about 1805 in Franklin CO., GA; died about 1870 in Calhoun CO., MS.
Everett Shuffield, born Abt. 1812

Isham Shuffield
All of whom are of lawful age and citizens of the State of Alabama except said Adam Shuffield, Everett Shufffield and Sally Wesson who are citizens of Mississippi.

In addition to the above named Heirs who are of lawful age, there are two infant sons under the age of 21 years which were begotten by the said descendant on the body of this Petitioner, to wit: Adam Sheffield, a second of the same name; and John Sheffield - both of whom reside with her and are under the care of the Petitioner. Petitioner further shows that she is in possession of said lands as the widow of the said descendant (who died in the fall of the year 1844) and that there are no other persons in possession of any of the lands that the Petitioner knows of.
