Greene County Alumnae Chapter History

The Greene County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered in 1978

by Yvonne Kennedy, Regional Director. Fourteen Dynamic sorors envisioned a chapter

in Greene County. Since becoming chartered, six presidents have led this chapter.

After twenty-one years, the organization continues to be viable in the community providing wholesome public service activities

for its citizens. Through concentrated efforts the small chapter of fifty-five members continues to initiate projects that correlate with the

"Five Point" program of the Grand Chapter. Overall, programs focus on educational development,

economic development, physical and mental health, political awareness and involvement, and

international awareness and involvement. Some of the service projects sponsored by this

chapter are: Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Breast Cancer Awareness, Voter Registration/Get Out To Vote,

the Debutant Season, Black Forum (tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), Adopt-A-Family, Health Fair, the Senior Citizens

Christmas Celebration, after school tutoring, and two annual scholorships. The Greene County Alumnae

Chapter Of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated continues to carry the

torch of our Founders and the vision of the charter members.
