I've got some W123 pictures for you. And a story...

You are looking at a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300D, Turbo diesel. 1982 was the first year for the turbo charged 300Ds, and they are different in more subtle ways than their 83-85 counterparts. Powered by the OM617.952 5 cylinder 3.0L turbo charged diesel engine, the engine output is 123 HP, delivers about 21 MPG city, the whereabouts of 25 on the highway, and is coupled up with the 722.315 four speed automatic transmission. The exterior paint color is code 877, or Petrol Green. The interior is code 135, or creme MB-Tex. It was built in June 1982, delivered to Canada a few months later, found its way to Houston sometime in 1983, and eventually found its way to me on October 2, 2004. The mileage reads 366,1xx miles (as of 12/31/06) and it runs great, it's the original engine under that hood. The previous owners ran synthetic, so I run Mobil 1 5W-40 TurboDiesel oil because of the superior protection qualities Mobil 1 provides for the largely city driven car, and it gets changed every 5,000 miles, with plans to extend that interval given the soot content in the oil does not go past 2%, and Mobil 1 ATF in the transmission. The previous owners did a few modifications to it including chrome fender trim, chrome 15" California Style flat face rims, 225/60/15 tires all around, and CD player radio. I've done a few modifications myself. Though not as extreme, I've removed pinstripes, replaced the old gray gear shifter knob with one made with Zebrano wood, placed a leather wheelskin over the steering wheel which was starting to show its age, firmed up seat springs, repainted the old gray grille screen black, added sheepskin seat covers removed the inoperative automatic Hirschmann antenna and replaced it with a OEM manual Hirschmann antenna. I also installed a 125 mph speedometer from a 83 or 84 model 300D, painted the fading yellow gauge needles orange, replaced my aging, brittle instrument cluster housing with one from a 77-80 model with the "cool" triangle style turn signal lights, replaced some interior lamps and license plate lamps with LEDs, and replaced the old and cracked fading front turn signal lenses with new dark amber Euro style ones. Future modifications include a repaint, maybe removing the chrome fender trim, getting the rims rechromed, new floor mats, and Euro lights.

MB sure knew how to build them back then...
