WHAT IS NLP?

NLP (neurolinguistic programming) was created in the ‘70s by two researchers: Richard Bandler, mathematician, and John Grinder, linguist. They modelled, by means of the microanalysis of numerous filmed sittings, the behaviour of therapists and communicators of exceptional efficacy, such as Milton Erickson, Virginia Satir and Fritz Pearls. In this way they noted a series of fundamental patterns, verbal and non verbal, common to all great communicators, which help enormously the interpersonal rapport and productive communication.

NLP originates as a synthesis and systematisation of these discoveries. The challenge of NLP, pragmatic and democratic, is that of rendering available, even at a basic level, the communicative capacity previously reserved for specialists.

INTEGRATED HUMANISTIC NLP

At twenty-five years from its outset, NLP is today in continual expansion: researchers and trainers in every part of the world are developing the discoveries and the intuitions originated by Bandler and Grinder. Integrated Humanistic NLP, founded in Italy by M. Scardovelli and C. Bozzo, is an original contribution in this direction. It proposes two fundamental aims:

— to anchor NLP to the humanistic and transpersonal values and vision;

— to integrate NLP with the more interesting and significant models and contributions within the sphere of personal growth and evolution (approach centred on the person, psychosynthesis, transactional analysis, cognitivist and systemic models, bioenergetics, biosystemics, core energetics, transpersonal psychology).

THE AIMS OF NLP

It provides very powerful operative tools, techniques and methods that anyone can acquire as a result of adequate formation and personal work, that:

— facilitate a deeper understanding of oneself and others

— develop an empathetic attitude and the capacity of rapport

— improve ones communicative competence, both verbal and non verbal

— dissolve blocks emotional and cognitive

— free one from conditionings negative of the past

— transform limiting convictions and decisions

— define well-formed objectives and construct ones future

— acquire new capacities of restructuring and negotiation

— develop creativity and full access to ones own resources

— develop a deeper contact with ones own true and ones own sense of life.

All this within the full respect of ones ecology both inner (parts of the mind) and outer (other persons involved). The clause regarding ecology excludes by definition any use of these techniques for a personal or egocentric motivation, and promotes the development of an authentic culture of peace, non violence and cooperation.

THE FIELDS OF APPLICATION

NLP is used in all sectors where communication has an important role: in psychotherapy, formation and personal evolution, in teaching and in the context of groups, in management and in situations of formation within companies.

Over a hundred thousand people worldwide, and many of the better known companies, have made successful use of the NLP technology and mentality.
