Welcome to the final word on one of America's most favorite dogs, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. My name is Russell and I have been dealing and training Chesapeake's for the last six years. Luckily I have already had the time to discover how wonderful these dogs really are. My goal now is to give those who have had little or no experience with these marvelous animals the chance to witness a truly special breed of dog.
This site is a tribute to my own dog and a place to learn more about the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Hopefully you will learn from the important details I have gathered during my own experience with chesapeakes and will be able to relate them to your own pet.
Let me introduce you to my dog and then with any luck we can learn something from each other. Her full name is Chesabel Southernland Sally (Who I Call Chessie). Chessie is a brown Chesapeake born in late September of 97' and she is (with no doubt) one of the smartest dogs I have ever worked with. Some of the breed can be extremely tenacious but once in a while you stumble across a truly unique chesapeake.
There are many personal insights to be gathered from this site. I have been all over the Internet looking for information on details that I couldn't find in a book or article. There was plenty of information but none of it told me what I needed to know. Here you will find a lot of information from personal experience coupled with those useful things I have found while doing my own research.
There are alot of things to be added. Believe me, I am nowhere near finished. This Page Is Continually Updated So Come Back And Check My Tip Section Often.
There Will Be A Tip On How To Train and Understand This Particular Breed Of Dog Periodically. Visit often for the updates.
I have run in to some difficulty keeping my Chessie comforted from the cold this winter. Either she has something against dog beds in general or she doesn't like the particular brand I picked out for her. How do I know this you might ask. Well, within a day my back yard went from just a winter-claimed lawn and garden to what appeared like a battle field. It was covered with cloth and stuffing from one side to the other. I thougt it had snowed in Alabama for a minute. Solution: I bought a new one. Washed it with the same shampoo I use on Chessie and let it dry in the sun. Then I glued the corners of the bed to the inside of her dog house. Problem Solved! (The glue may have been overkill on my part. You may try it without the glue first)
