Our company name is Foam Delights & we are serious about your success. Okay, what's going on with "Flight School"? No, I didn't think about doing this before anyone else, but I can guarantee, this will be the best radio-controlled flight school available anywhere.
How can I make a statement like that? Simple, because I've been an instructor for the last 11 years. I've got a great combination - a recipe, if you will, for making your R/C learning experience a successful one - guaranteed. Let's consider what I have to offer:
First of all, enrollment includes only one student at a time, so your time with the instructor is maximized. I can get you more experience flying in one or two days than others provide in an entire week of training. We have a wonderful flying site and the option of moving up to advanced planes, as your skills improve is available. Having an AMA membership is not required. You can either provide your own plane, or rent one of ours, or buy one from us ready to fly, then take it home with you when your training session is finished.
What sets Foam Delights apart from the others?
1 - You'll be learning on a T-52, perhaps the most durable & most stable of all trainers
2 - I'll teach you how to fly
2.1 - I'll review the aerodynamic characteristics of the T-52
2.2 - We will be using a "buddy-box" trainer system - this means we'll each have our own transmitter - the transmitters will be connected so if you get into trouble, I'll be there to take over immediately, as necessary.
2.3 - You can provide your own equipment, using your own plane, or you may fly one of our planes. For getting more help building your own T-52, click on this button for more information about our video
2.4 - If you want, you can leave the training session with the same plane you learned to fly on - click on this button for more information
3 - You don't have to join AMA, or a local flying field to participate in our training sessions
4 - You don't have to provide any equipment - or you can provide all of it.
5 - We feel you can learn a lot by using an RC flight simulator. If you are not going to buy one you could rent one of ours. We make the flight simulators available for $25 for two weeks of use, plus shipping (deposit required).
Where does training occur? We'll be flying in Marietta, GA, just outside Atlanta. We can create a schedule that suits your needs, or you can select from the following:
Four hour session
One day session (7 hours)
Typically, shorter sessions involve the following:
1 - Pre Flight Review - to make sure you have a proper understanding of the safety & operation of the plane and support equipment
2 - Flying - using NiMH battery packs, each flight will last at least 10 minutes, we plan on having about 40 minutes of flying per hour. You will be flying several different patterns which progress in difficulty. It will be necessary to relax & take a break after each flying session. During the break, we will be reviewing your previous flight, consuming yummy refreshments, & discussing the upcoming flights.
3 - Post Training Review - to make sure you understand what to do when you get back to your own flying field.
Longer sessions may include learning advanced flying skills with one of our more advanced planes, the E-Plane. This possibility will depend on the level of flight abilities gained by the student. Also, the instructor may, upon request, illustrate some of the required maneuvers before being attempted by the student. Don't worry - I won't yell at you when you make mistakes. This will be a very laid-back, fun & confidence-inspiring experience.
