ALABAMA AVENUE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Alabama Avenue Middle School was constructed in 1955 on a 25 acre plot located two blocks from the city of Albertville. The original facilities were built through the combined efforts of the City of Albertville and the Marshall County Board of Education. Three expansions have been made to the original structure. In 1971 through the solitary efforts of the City of Albertville, a library, small recreation room, and four classrooms were added. Then, in 1972 another expansion was made by the City of Albertville. This included all eighth grade classrooms, a home economics dept. and an Industrial Arts shop. Finally in 1984, through a special grant, a full-size gymnasium was constructed.

The school originally served grades five and six. In 1972 the grade structure was changed to serve sixth, seventh, and eighth grades; thereby, changing from an elementary school to the only middle school in Albertville. Now Alabama Avenue Middle School serves 764 students in grades 6th-8th. Forty certified faculty members strive to help students achieve academic success and to think critically in all areas of student's lives.

Alabama Avenue Middle School is one of six schools in the Albertville City School System. The Albertville City School System was formed in 1985 and presently serves 3,100 students living in the Albertville community. Alabama Avenue Middle School personnel works closely with Albertville High School personnel, coordinating eighth grade subjects and curriculum with those of the high school.

The philosophy of Alabama Avenue Middle School is to endeavor to develop unity in the school while at the same time to promote individuality, imagination, and creativity. Each pupil will be led to experience success daily in the classroom as we provide a wholesome learning environment.
