IT TAKES MORE THAN A CRUSHED SPINE TO STOP JASON PRIESTLEY, DAMMIT

Jason Priestley has motored back to Fox, 90035, sealing a talent holding deal with the network to make a return to primetime series TV.

Priestley, of course, is still best known for his eight-year stint as good boy gone rich Brandon Walsh on Fox's "Beverly Hills, 90210." More recently he appeared in the feature "Die Mommie Die," which earned scribe-star Charles Busch an award at this year's Sundance.

Under the deal, Fox will look to develop for Priestley or cast him in one of its development projects for fall 2004. It would mark a comeback of sorts for Priestley, who nearly died a year ago when a race car he was driving at the Kentucky Speedway crashed head-on into a wall at nearly 180 mph.

Priestley recovered; Barbara Walter's interview with the healed actor last February scored one of "20/20's" top ratings last season. He also appeared in an episode of Alphabet's "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" following his recovery last season.

Before his accident, Priestley had been signed to serve as a color sports commentator for seven Indy Racing League events on ABC. He's also directed numerous TV segs, including several episodes of "90210" and the WB's "Grosse Pointe," as well as the feature concert documentary "Barenaked in America."

Priestley, who's repped by UTA, has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. Other film credits include "Love and Death on Long Island," "Calendar Girl" and "Eye of the Beholder."
