Francis Marion Wooten was the son of William J. Wooten and Susannah Grant.  He married Mary Free, and they had 15 Children: James Washington, Ancel Francis, Maryann Elizabeth, Josephine, Lucinda Catherine, John Newton, Nancy Jane Mae, Jasper Franklin E., Joseph Andrew Jackson, Ruthy Melinda, Miles Monroe, Elijah Cicero, Eliza Caldonia, Peter Irwin, and Walker Daniel Spencer Wooten.  Francis Marion is buried in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery on Sand Mountain in Dekalb County, Alabama.

He was a talented musician and conducted a singing school in Dekalb County, Alabama.  At the age of 37 he enlisted in the 1st Tennessee & Alabama Independent Vidette Cavalry Company B.  While in service, he was a bugler and a scout.
