I went to Chicago with a bit of a negative attitude - you see I never wanted to go to the States in the first place - I want to explore Europe and Asia first however I found myself with a ticket to Detroit and the reason for going ,,, well gone!
Well was I surprised - I had a FANTASTIC holiday! Before going I joined a Chicago goth mailing list and got various bits of information (such as cheap hotel accommodation, clubs to go to and a few numbers)
A lady called Empress Jade gave me the details of a cheap residential hotel on West Diversey and took me for my first Chicago meal (breakfast) She works for a blues singer called Buddy Guy and has been in the music industry for many a year .. we also went bargain hunting and found a beautiful desktop chest / drawer set which I cannot eloquently describe!
I also met a guy called Tarik (Osiris) who does not look anything like his voice! Tarik took me to Neo on Saturday where we danced and socialised till the end of the evening to then go to an all night cafe called the Pick Me Up cafe where we terrorised the waitress with over kindness and laughter! I am sooo glad I dont waitress anymore! We then arranged to go to a Neo-Futurist play called Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind - way cool (Tarik was nominated Ethnic Minority something or the other! Afterwards went to a restuarant called TomBoy (methinks!!) and had an excellant meal and Creme Brule.
Monday it was off to the Black Porchop mailing groups pool meeting for hilarity and general rambunctiousness (if there is such a word) where I met soo many people including Tim who was so kind to be my day-guide (taking me to the aquarium, Seers Tower and other places around Chicago)
Wednesday I went to Ann Arbor MI, with Judith on a tattoo run - with the help and greatly appreciated Mark (GothPilot) who flew us there - my first time in a light aircraft - whoo hoo! And after 7 years of deliberation - got a tat. myself (Smoggy may you rest in peace and know that you are always in my heart!)
Thursday and Friday were spent clubbing and meeting people - hopefully some who will become friends and I will see again ...
Chicago - thanks for surprising me !
