DID YOU KNOW?
Humans are not natural swimmers.   Early man learned to swim by watching the animals.  God gave the animals a natural instinct to swim.  Swimming became a means of survival for early man.  Swimming is not the same as bathing houses that were built by the Romans. In the early 1800's, swimming became a sport for man.   By 1837 there were six swimming pools in London, England.  In 1869 the first,  Amateur Swimming Association of Great Britain was formed.   This lead to organized swimming competitions.  In the United States, the Amateur Athletic Union was formed in 1888.  By the 1920's the United States dominated most international swimming events.  Today there are many different national and international events in competitive swimming.  At the Olympic Games there are four basic swimming categories.  Do you know the name of the first stroke ever used?
