Some Things That Have Helped

What I've Done

One of the most valuable things that can be done in a time of grief is to share. Through sharing, we are able to work through our own feelings. And in doing so, others have the opportunity to work through their feelings as well. Once the initial emotions are expressed through sharing with others, then we are better able to begin putting things into perspective.

Putting things into perspective means to reflect on an event, thought or feeling, and then try to find some sort of meaning. Once we find meaning, or a reason for something, then we can start to gain a better sense of closure. Closure is necessary because it allows us to heal.

Part of the healing process is being able to work through and express these things. It is important to find a way to do this. Each individual will find a particular way that best suits them. Whether it be by talking, writing, drawing, painting or some other means, being able to process, in our own minds, something that has affected us deeply is essential in order to heal.

I know, this is sounding a tad bit psychological. But this is a normal, natural process. Following are a few of the things that I have done in order to cope with what has happened.
